A wonderful across-the-street neighbor. We are sorry to see her pass, but at the same time respect her fortitude and independence in staying in her home the way she wanted to. Her life I feel was a simple and admirable one, and from the stories she would tell us we know her family was its centerpiece.

I was touched to read all of these wonderful stories about Venie. I can not add to these tales of years gone by, but one that is just two weeks old.
The First United Methodist Church Youth Fellowship has a HelpFall Day on Oct. 15 where we went out to our elder's homes to prepare their yards for Winter. Pat Shapiro, the church's nurse, filled out Venie's request form - cut back the vines creeping up her home and into the gutters. I stopped by in advance to size up the job and spent a short time with Venie.
On HelpFall Day, a larger crew show up at her home than the work required. Two children went into visit with Venie while the rest cut the vines, raked the flower beds, swept the drive and front door patio. Venie told these two little girls about her family, stories of our church and tales of days gone by. Venie was thrilled by the work and the company. Before she left, Venie gave the girls a tin of cookies which, I'm happy to report, were gone before we arrived at the next home.
"Remember," she told me, "it's Vee (flashing the universal Peace sign), Knee (pointing to her leg)."
Even from that brief time, I'll never forget...

Dear Yyrella and Family,
If it were not for our contact with Donovan, I guess I would never know of your sweet mother's death. I believe she's the last of our family's contacts of my mother, Beatrice's, family and friends. I took this message over to my mother's care center yesterday for her to read. Bea, 95, read the obituary and shared so many memories of Venie.
Mom remembered when your father and my father used to perform together on the drums and piano. She talked about all the funny notes she received in the past from Venie, often, but especially at Christmas time, in red and green. Venie often sent pictures of her family when she wrote. She always carried pictures of your family with to brag about her special loved ones, your family.
Family was everything to her.
She joked that you said, I believe, that you were just going to plow the house down when she died. Well, that day is here, and I must admit that though I knew she was in pain w/ arthritis, I expected Venie the Energizer Bunny to go on for many more years.
I talked with her twice this year..first when my Aunt Jeannette Hokenson died in April. She admitted that she wasn't up to getting to the memorial service, and we sure understood. Then I called her when I went to Milwaukee for our 45th Juneau reunion. I regret that I didn't see her. But bless Donovan's heart...he picked her up and took her to the all- school closing on June 3rd. There's even a picture of her on his website. It makes me feel good to know that she was involved.
Venie will always be the forever PTA president, way beyond the time that you and your brother were at Blaine school. She was a prankster as well. I loved visiting with her the time I visited Milwaukee prior to June.
God bless you at this difficult time. I tried to find your phone # in the Dallas area with out luck, so I hope you receive this message.
Our families shared so many special times growing up.
Please call me, Vyrella, if you have a moment: 719-685-5573.

WHAT A PLEASURE TO KNOW THIS LADY. WE WERE FORTUNATE TO HAVE HER AS A DENTAL PATIENT. SHE ALWAYS HAD A STORY TO SHARE AND BROUGHT MANY SMILES TO OUR FACES. MAY GOD BLESS HER AND KEEP HER. DIANE (DR. MALLOY'S OFFICE)

I had the great pleasure of talking to you Mrs. Ulrich and I will always remember your kindness and loving face. As your son Jay is missed you too will be. But now you get to be together again.
