Joseph Riederer Obituary

Joe Riederer died  quietly June 6, 2021 with family by his side at the Sitka Pioneers Home.

Joe was born in Ketchikan, and met his lifetime sweetheart Jean Wickward when they were 15.   They were married five years later and celebrated their 70th  anniversary this year.  They raised 8 children in their home  full of happiness, discipline and love.

Joe served in the army before attending Loma Linda University School of Medicine and moved to Juneau in 1961.   He practiced medicine there for more than 45 years.   He was a commercial fisherman before and after his medical career.

His wishes were for a simple family graveside service which was held in Juneau.

He is survived by his wife Jean Riederer, sister Joelle Elliston, and children Sheri Wagner, Carolyn Riederer Annerud, Drue Wagner, Craig Wagner, Mark Riederer, Sandy Wagner Young, Dwight Riederer, and Gail Riederer, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is loved and missed.
The Family thanks his many friends and the Sitka Pioneers Home staff for their loving care.

Dr. Joe was an amazing person & doctor. He delivered my daughter in 1974 and I had the privilege of working for him years later at Dr. Akiyama´s clinic. He was always soft spoken & kind...except he could really belt out a tune! My deep sympathies to his family

I met the amazing man back in the early '70's thru my friends the Bixby's, another great fisherman. My first introduction to Joe was at a ping pong table in the Bixby's recreation room. Such a big and friendly man... and played a masterful game of ping pong... with hands so big he could hide the paddle in his hands and reach halfway across the table to score... but always with a smile. I've never seen a big guy move so fast... he was amazing to watch and fun to be around. I'm sure he's now teaching a few Angles how to master the game.

I hope every one who new Joe and his wife will learn the full story of these wonderful people. I knew Joe almost from the time he arrived in Juneau and off and on throughout his life, as an MD and a commercial fisherman. He did some remarkable work on me years ago and we both laughed about it years later. They don't make people like Joe Riederer . And its a shame because we sure could use more of them.
Condolences to Jean and all the family.
