Malcolm McGregor Obituary

Malcolm R. McGregor (Mac) died Monday, July 25th peacefully at home. He was born on his family ranch on August 2, 1922 in Lake Valley, New Mexico.

He spent the first 56 years of his life in New Mexico. In 1948, while working on a roof, he spotted the love of his life, Caroline McGregor. This has always been one of his favorite stories explaining how he knew right then that she was the woman he would spend the rest of his life with. They were married in 1949 and spent 59 loving years together.

While living in New Mexico, he was a plumber and building contractor. Malcolm was active in the Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge, and the Methodist Church. He was the master of the Kingston Lodge #16 5 times. He was always there to help
or just listen to anyone.

After almost 30 years in business in New Mexico, he and Caroline moved to Juneau. He started working for DOT in 1979 and then took a job as the building manager of the Capitol Building. He loved his job and enjoyed the interaction with everyone during each session.

Malcolm served two tours of duty. The first tour was in World War II in France and Germany. He was then recalled for the Korean War as an Infantry Lieutenant. Has was in the US 66th Army, 262nd Division, K Company, also known as the Black Panthers. He was one of the survivors of the USS Leopoldville when it was torpedoed Christmas Eve 1944 in the English Channel. This instilled an ability to lead and protect. He was a quiet man who was compassionate and did not discuss himself but would always try to help others.

Malcolm was a loving father of three children, Tom, Caroline, and Grant. He was preceeded in death by his wife Caroline in 2008 and his son, Grant in 2005, his brothers, Grant and Carlton, and his sister, Inez. He is survived by his son Dr. Tom McGregor (Cathy), daughter Caroline Shivers (Russ), sister in law, Nola Capp, grandchildren, Rusty Shivers, Meagan Dudley(Sam), Maureen Shivers, Grant McGregor and the twinkle of his great grandfather's eye, Caeden Malcolm.

Services to be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 9161 Cinema Drive at 1 pm Saturday, July 30th. Reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
