Maureen Jenne Obituary

Maureen Anne Jenne, born in Juneau, on November 3, 1949, died in Eugene, Oregon, on July 26, 2022. Maureen Anne Jenne passed away July 26, 2022, at Pete Moore Hospice
House in Eugene, Oregon, at the age of 72. Cause of death was complications of a stroke,
as consequence of treatment for a recurring cancer. Maureen was born November 3, 1949, to Ruth (Whalen) and Charles J. (Bud) Jenne
at St. Ann's Hospital in Juneau, Territory of Alaska. She attended St. Ann's Catholic School
in Juneau through 8th grade, and then Juneau-Douglas High School for her freshman
year. In June of 1965, her family moved to Ketchikan, where she continued her secondary
education, graduating from Ketchikan High School in 1968. Following high school graduation, Maureen attended Oregon State University and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology, and later an M.A. in Marriage and Family Counseling
at the University of Oregon. With M.A. in hand, she settled into a serious career working
with a variety of clients and issues, eventually focusing on addiction counseling, and
becoming Clinical Director at Emergence Addiction and Mental Health Services, providing
clinical supervision and training to staff. In Eugene, Maureen also began a permanent
relationship of 31 years with U.O. Anthropology professor, Elliott Gehr, later a clinical
counselor.
Gardening was a favorite activity, and her garden was spectacular! She tended to vegetables, fruits, and an abundance of flowers. She also thoroughly enjoyed her monthly
meeting with her women's book club of 12 years. Maureen was preceded in death by her grandparents, Juneau residents and pioneers Dr. Charles P. Jenne and Chrystal Snow Jenne; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Jesse F. Whalen,
of Wheeling, West Virginia; parents, Charles J. (Bud) and Ruth (Whalen) Jenne, formerly
of Juneau and Ketchikan.
Maureen is survived by her life partner of 31 years, Elliott Gehr, and extended family, of Eugene, Oregon; siblings Kathleen McKinney (David) of Everett, Washington; Paul Jenne,
and Deirdre Brandow (Steve) of Ketchikan; niece Karilyn Schaffer (Jason, and children) of
Colorado; nephew Ron Brandow (Ashley, and children) of Ketchikan, nieces Amy Denny (and
children) and Michelle Jackson (Andy, and children) of Ketchikan; cousins David Kenway
of Utah, and Virginia Donaldson (Greg, and family) of California. A celebration of Life took place in Eugene, Oregon, on September 11, at Mt. Pisgah Arboretum, White Oak Pavilion, with her Alaskan family in attendance. Maureen's favorite
pear pie and grape juice, from the grapes in her garden, were served at the celebration.
