Romeo Jaravata Obituary

A long time Juneau resident, Romeo N. Jaravata, 69, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born in Tubao La Union, Philippines. He was one of six children to the late Lorenzo & Margarita Jaravata.

He was the beloved husband of Lynn Jaravata for 33 years. Romeo met the loved of his life Lynn, while she was vacationing in Subic, Philippines in the 80s. It was love at first sight for Romeo; he did not hesitate nor waited long to ask the beautiful young lady "would you be my wife?". Before Lynn could even respond, he then continued to say "I am not handsome, I am not wealthy, and all I can offer is a promise to love you and be the only woman that I will love until the day I die." Lynn was in awe and couldn't speak and that's when their love story and life started together. Romeo kept the promise that he made in March 6, 1982. He was a good and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a friend to all.

Romeo worked for City and Borough of Juneau at the Water Treatment Facility for 22 years. In his spare time he enjoyed walking, hunting, fishing, watching TV (especially QVC) and loved spending quality time with his grandkids. He was also there to help friends with household projects or whatever else he is needed for – a joker or even just a story teller as he is known for his great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife Lynn of 33 years, children, Ryan (wife Kamaili) of Juneau, AK, Ray (Kyle Lanz) of San Pedro, CA, daughter Jennifer of Spokane, WA and grandkids, Andrei, Shayla and Michael all of Juneau, AK. He is also survived by his siblings May (Jon) Wray of San Diego, CA, Aida (Tom) Barrios of San Diego CA, Fe (Rolando) Egenias of Vallejo, CA, Sally (Mike) Harris of San Diego, CA, Lorenzo (Cynthia) Jaravata of Juneau, AK, and many nieces and nephews.

Romeo built his life around his family and friends and his deep love, strength and integrity will greatly be missed.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be trouble and do not be afraid.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 4 from 5:00 to 9:00pm at the Alaska Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3839 Riverside Drive. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 5, 1:00pm mass at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 9055 Atlin Street, Juneau, AK 99801. A reception will follow after the mass at St. Paul's Hall. As Romeo's last wish, his final resting place will be in California by his mother's side.
