Todd Gartley Obituary

Todd Allan Gartley (58) of Juneau Alaska passed away on June 6, 2025

He is survived by his loving wife Vickie, the love of his life and very best friend. They belonged together and were rarely seen apart. They enjoyed traveling and most trips were related to Real Estate, but he was a trooper and always by her side. They also enjoyed traveling to their condo in Wenatchee where each morning they got up and walked the Wenatchee River hand in hand.

Todd was born in Rochester, New York on December 5, 1966, and grew up the youngest of seven children in Hamlin, NY. Throughout Todd's life, his work ethic was beyond compare. He started working at a very early age on the neighbors 3000-acre cash crop farm. He was affectionately known as "Farmer" growing up. He played competitive hockey and baseball and loved sports. He was an avid NY Yankees, Syracuse Orange, and Washington Redskins fan. At the age of 19 he went to work for Villager Construction in Rochester where he would learn heavy equipment operation and begin his profession in underground utilities that carried him through the years.

Fate brought Todd to Alaska in the early 90s. He worked around the state, finally ending up in Dutch Harbor working for South Coast and Northern Mechanical. In the construction off season, he worked on several different crab boats.

While in Dutch Harbor, Todd met Vickie, and after almost 10 years together, they married in September of 2005 on the shores of Lake Ontario.. He was her biggest cheerleader, supporting her in her real estate career, and every way possible. Todd made sure that everyone knew how much he cherished his beautiful wife. They truly were the best of friends.

In 2005, the first phase of the infamous "Out the Road" project brought him to Juneau, where he and Vickie lived ever since. Todd joined the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Wastewater Operations in 2012 and was still there at the time of his death.
He is survived by his mother Beverly Lester, predeceased by his father Thomas Gartley, stepfather Stanley Lester and his oldest brother Kenneth G. Surridge. His surviving brothers and sisters are S. Michael Lester (Debra), Scott P. Surridge (Kim), Frances E. Rowley (Nathan), Mark D. Surridge, and Teena L. Donaher (Robert).

Todd was a lover of animals, and his pride and joy was his faithful basset hound Beauregard Augustus who passed in 2020. They went everywhere together, and Gus knew where the biscuits were in the front of Don Abel as well as the back. Todd and Vickie finally got a new puppy in December and after some months Todd declared his love for him.

Friends who wish may make memorial donations in his name to Juneau Animal Rescue.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Moose Lodge on Airport Blvd. Sunday July 27th from 1pm – 4pm. All are welcome to remember Todd and gather in his name.
