Church Point, LA: John Raymond Savoie, Sr., 71, native of Church Point and resident of Livonia, LA, passed away surrounded by those closest to him on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, after battling cancer for a second time. Born on January 22, 1954, Raymond grew up in a close-knit family where the core values of hard work, determination, perseverance, and love of family were instilled in him from a young age. Raymond had an elegant way with words expressed through poetry. His poetry was shared with family and friends in times of joy and sorrow, most notably in his annual Christmas cards. Even when faced with a second diagnosis of cancer, Raymond remained optimistic and used his sense of humor to comfort those around him. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and everyone's favorite uncle.
Raymond was a plumber by trade before pursuing a degree in Computer Science. He is a 1988 graduate of the former University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL). In July of 2021, Raymond retired with 34 years of service as a computer programmer/system analyst. Raymond enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, fishing, watching LSU sports, reading, and traveling with his beloved wife, Stephanie.
