Raymond Savoie Obituary

Church Point, LA: John Raymond Savoie, Sr., 71, native of Church Point and resident of Livonia, LA, passed away surrounded by those closest to him on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, after battling cancer for a second time. Born on January 22, 1954, Raymond grew up in a close-knit family where the core values of hard work, determination, perseverance, and love of family were instilled in him from a young age. Raymond had an elegant way with words expressed through poetry. His poetry was shared with family and friends in times of joy and sorrow, most notably in his annual Christmas cards. Even when faced with a second diagnosis of cancer, Raymond remained optimistic and used his sense of humor to comfort those around him. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and everyone's favorite uncle. Raymond was a plumber by trade before pursuing a degree in Computer Science. He is a 1988 graduate of the former University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL). In July of 2021, Raymond retired with 34 years of service as a computer programmer/system analyst. Raymond enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, fishing, watching LSU sports, reading, and traveling with his beloved wife, Stephanie. He also enjoyed cheering his grandchildren on at all of their sporting events. Raymond is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Stephanie Lafosse Savoie of Livonia; his children, Angelle Savoie and fiancé Brian Dubee of Zachary, John Savoie and wife Trish of Livonia and Heather Jarreau and husband Chad of Livonia; his grandchildren, Alexis Kennedy and husband Ashton of Walker, Hunter Savoie and wife Payton of Lakeland, Koby Savoie and wife Fallon of Oscar, Dylan Savoie and girlfriend Claire Williams of Livonia, Haley Willis and husband Caleb of Maringouin and Isabella Jarreau of Livonia; his great-grandchildren, Olivia, Mallory, and Brooks Kennedy of Walker, Cambri Savoie of Lakeland, Kollyns Savoie of Oscar and two additional precious great-grandchildren on the way; his siblings, Mildred Johnson and husband Kelly of Metairie, Donald Savoie and wife Becky of Baton Rouge and sister/goddaughter Linda Carmello of Church Point; his godchildren, Alison Hebert of Moss Bluff, Chance Henry of Sulfur and Trey Carmello of Church Point; numerous nieces and nephews and his loved dog Bella. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pierre Austin "Tee" and Mary Gladys Savoie; his infant brother Joseph Savoie; his father and mother-in-law, Thomas "Tommy" and Alberetta "Sally" Lafosse; and his brothers-in-law, Newton Bertrand and Michael Lafosse. A visitation will be held at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point on Monday, April 21st from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm and will continue Tuesday, April 22nd from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point. Father Mitchell Guidry will be the celebrant of the Mass; Interment will be in the Our Lady of Sacred Heart Cemetery on Highway 35 north of Church Point. Pallbearers will be Hunter, Koby, and Dylan Savoie, Trey Carmello, Chance Henry, Jared and Koury "Smokey" Lafosse, and Neal "Joe" Richard. Honorary pallbearer will be Gary Richard. We find comfort in knowing that Raymond's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
