Theodore Gundlah Obituary

Theodore Gundlah, 85, of Chestnut St. in Kane, passed away Wednesday morning (Dec. 14) at the Lutheran Home at Kane. He was born on April 16, 1937 in Hackensack, NJ, the son of the late Arthur and Myrtle (Brower) Gundlah.

Mr. Gundlah attended Union College and received his graduate degree at George Washington University. He served in the US Army as second lieutenant and completed the Officer Candidate School at Ft. Sill, OK. Mr. Gundlah held the position of Hospital Administrator/CEO at the Olean General Hospital for over 30 years and in his retirement worked with the OGH Foundation. The Gundlah Dental Center at the Olean General Hospital was named after him. He was a professor at the University of Tampa and served on the Olean Chamber of Commerce and the Smethport School Board as well as volunteered for the American Legion and other charitable groups.

He is survived by his life partner, Sandy (Bradybaugh) Johnson of Kane; one daughter, Melissa (David) Hintz of Granger, IA; one son Christopher (Deanna) Gundlah of Strongsville, OH and four grandchildren, Adam and Lindsay Gundlah and Sara and Spencer Hintz; a sister-in-law, Carol Gundlah, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Sonja Covert; one sister, Florence Keating and two brothers, Robert and James Gundlah.

Friends may attend a memorial service, which will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank Eppley and the Rev. Heather Glogau, officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Smethport American Legion, Post 138. Interment will take place in the Fairmont Cemetery in Smethport.

Memorial donations may be made or the Olean General Hospital Foundation, 515 Main St., Olean, NY 14760 or to the McKean County SPCA, 80 Glenwood Ave., Bradford, PA 16701
