Beulah Onderek Obituary

MARION - Onderek, Beulah Mae "Bea", 76, the "Flower Lady" passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on June 11, 2010; she was formerly of Wichita. She now tends God's Flower Garden in peace and serenity. She leaves behind her loving husband Charley Junior Onderek of 43 years; 4 children: Lila Bennefield-Lowrey of Cheyenne, WY; Robin Sparbel of Wichita; Lance Onderek of Wichita; and Vance "Eddie" Onderek of Wichita; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many very close friends, who were also like family. Every time you see a flower, think of Bea and smile. She grew beautiful flowers here and should be the guardian of all flowers. If you would plant a flower in her memory, she would smile from her heavenly garden. Private family services. Memorials to the Susan G. Koman Foundation in care Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.

You would not believe how hot it's been. The heat index is like 110. This is not doing anyones gardens, flowers, trees a bit of good. Shed a tear for us Bea so that our plantswill thrive. Miss you so much.

My relationship with my mother was rocky over the years, but she was my mother and I loved her very much. I wish now I had called more often, maybe tried to resolve a few more issues. Anyway, maybe another time and another place we'll work it out. For now, I miss you Momma and I love you.

I was looking at some dead pine needles the other day and remembered when we had another dumb idea. I had read in a western about these trappers that brewed pine needles to make a hot beverage because they had ran out of coffee. We decided to give it a try. That was the nastiest tasting stuff we had made to date. Did you ever tell anyone? If not, they all know now. Miss you Bea.

We were bargain hunting in peoples yards and garages one fall while the guys were out with their muskets looking for deer. You commented to one of these homebody retailers that you just loved all her flowers. She happily told you that she just didn't have the strength to thin out the overgrowth, but that anyone who was willing to do this for her could have the plants. How was it that I ended up with the shovel? You had plants and bushes stacked in from of Lance's house. When Charlie came to get you, there was O visibility from any of the van windows. Who worked the shovel to replant all of them in your yard? I never had the courage to ask. Who will get me into all those fine messes now? I miss you.

She will be missed by so many of us. She was known for her love of nature, of flowers I knew her as a friend. We had differences of opinions in both the raising of kids, the dealing with homelife, the facing of what was acceptable and what was not. She was with me during two marriages and a lot of life. We remained friends throughout these debates and although there were periods we didn't talk to one another, when we did it was as if all was forgiven, forgotten. We tripped down river bank, waded into deep holes in creeks, got stuck in floods looking for fish. We fished at night by the light of a flashlight to bait our hooks, asking only "Did you hear that?" and answering "Yeah!" Whatever it was did not make us pack up and leave. We just baited another hook by flashlight. We hunted together.Deer, turkey, quail, pheasant, rabbit, or squirrel were all sought out. She remembered to take the safety off more often than me. During deer hunting , she would make several trips to her blind, taking weapon, tent, toilet, stove, food, everything but the kitchen sink. I would take my weapon, backpack, and thermos. She was better prepared for the long haul. So many funny stories that would fill the pages of many a book, stories that can only happen when two women are turned loose on nature with either a pole or a gun. I will miss you Bea. Linda Jones
