Wichita, Kansas - Ione J. McElhaney, age 95, of Wichita, Kansas passed to eternal life on Monday, April 22, 2024. She was born on Groundhog Day, February 2, 1929 to Ted and Ella Hinderliter in Virgil, Kansas. Ione was known for her beautiful flowers, gardening and her sweet disposition. Her fresh fruit pies were legendary. Ione was a member of Westwood Presbyterian Church since 1956. Volunteering was a big part of her life. Some of the organizations that were dear to her heart included 4-H Club, Meals on Wheels, and The Lord's Diner. Ione spent the last years of her life at Westwood Presbyterian Manor in Wichita surrounded by lots of friends. Ione is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank G. McElhaney; and son, David Lee. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann Daratt and Cherlyn Mann; brothers, Gary (Marie) Hinderliter and Norman (Donna) Hinderliter; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends who loved her. A visitation with family will be held May 18, 2024 from 10:15-11:00 a.m., with the memorial service immediately following at 11:00 a.m., at Westwood Presbyterian Church located at 8007 W. Maple St., Wichita, KS 67209. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Westwood Presbyterian Church.
