BELLVILLE - Snapp, Iris Irene Hawley, the daughter of Emmett Ritchey and Ermma (Williams) Ritchey, was born September 26, 1922, at rural Cheney, KS, and passed away on August 29, 2008, at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, KS at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 2 days. Iris received her early education at the Ritchey Country School near Cheney, KS. She graduated from Cheney High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Charles G. Hawley on January 30, 1942, and to this union Charles Stanley and Neil Kent were born. During WW II, Iris worked at Cessna Manufacturing in Wichita. Following the War, the couple farmed near and resided in Cheney. Iris also worked as a secretary at Cheney High School. In 1961, the couple moved to Belleville, KS. Iris worked for many years as a secretary for the USD #427 School District Board Office and Belleville High School. Iris retired in 1983. Charles preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1992. On March 21, 1994, she was united in marriage to R. E. Snapp, and they made their home in Belleville, KS. Iris was a member of the Central Christian Church and active in the C.W.F., and Ruth Circle. She also was a member of PEO, the Eastern Star in Cheney, several bridge groups and study clubs. Iris enjoyed playing bridge, reading the Bible, making pottery, quilting; especially with the Tuesday/Thursday Quilting Ladies at the Christian Church. She rarely missed going to the Belleville Ladies' Coffee Club. Iris was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Charles G. Hawley; two sisters: Jennie Ruth Spurrier and Hallie Pipkin; and one brother, Frank Ritchey. Iris is survived by her husband, Edwin Snapp of Belleville, KS; two sons: Stanley Hawley of Seattle, Washington and Neil Hawley and wife, Sandy of Garden City, KS; three sisters: Lois Butler of Cheney, KS, Julia House of Topeka, KS, and Edna Oliver of Wichita, KS; one step-daughter: Barbara Fisher and husband, Glenn of Belleville, KS; three step-sons: Phil Snapp of Lincoln, NE; Jon Snapp and wife, Terri of Colorado Springs, CO, and Paul Snapp and wife, Elise of Great Bend, KS; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at the Central Christian Church with Pastor Mark Imel officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 4 PM, Tuesday at the Vinita Cemetery, Cheney, KS. Friends may call from 1:00PM - 9:30PM Sunday and Monday at the funeral home.
