Jack Wayne Boden

Derby, Kansas - Jack Wayne Boden of Wichita, Kansas passed away on February 2, 2024. Jack was born on October 2, 1928 in Sharon, Kansas to Anna Manley Boden and Norton Boden, the youngest of eight children. He graduated from Sharon High School where he was actively involved in basketball. In 1947, he moved to Wichita where he met his future wife of 66 years, Homerine Brown. Jack went to work for The Boeing Company in Wichita in 1948 and progressed to a position as General Manager in PCA, spending a total of 36 years with the company. He played basketball on local leagues during the 1950's and coached Little League baseball teams for several years in the 1960s. When the aviation downturn occurred in the late 1960's he transferred to Seattle to work on development of the 747 Program. For a short period of time, Jack and Homerine went into business for themselves and owned a Baskin Robbins ice cream store in Yakima, Washington. They returned to Wichita in 1974 to be with family and both returned to work at Boeing.
Jack and Homerine moved to an acreage near Mulvane in the late 1970s to enjoy country living and the horses he loved. He became active in the Lyons Club and Mulvane United Methodist Church where he has maintained his membership and his dedication to faith. Jack's greatest passions always involved athletics. He loved golf and bowling, and was involved in both sports well into his 90's despite severe loss of vision.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Boden) Cusack, five grandchildren: Laurissa McElravy (Mike McElravy), Nathan Houseman (Diane Houseman), Lindsay Sapp (Len Sapp), Rachel Bise (Shawn Bise) and Jordan Lytton (J. Lytton); ten great-grandchildren: Kyle Houseman, Evan McElravy, Erin McElravy, Ethan McElravy, Dylan Sapp, Braedon Sapp, Hudson Sapp, Lucas Bise, Jesse Bise, Kathryn Bise, and six surviving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Homerine Boden and son, Jerrald Boden.
Visitation will be 5-7pm Thursday, February 15, at Smith Mortuary in Derby. The celebration of Jack's life will be held at Mulvane United Methodist Church at 11:00 am, February 16, 2024. Family will be available for visitation prior to the service at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mulvane United Methodist Church.
