Jack Casner Obituary

Jack Casner
October 28, 1940 - December 6, 2020
Milton, Kansas - Jack Wayne Casner was born October 28, 1940, the only child of Bob and Leora Casner. He was raised in Milton, Kansas where he lived until his death December 6, 2020. He attended school in Milton where he graduated from high school in 1958. He was a member of several Milton Meadowlark sports teams. Jack attended K-State for a year before returning to work alongside his dad on the family farm, northeast of Milton, where he worked for the remainder of his life. Jack married Judy Meridith on June 4, 1960 in Argonia, Kansas. They raised two children, Rex and Dixie, enjoying family, church, and school activities. Summer vacations to Lake of the Ozarks and Table Rock Lake continued as their family grew to include in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and extended family.
Jack's life's work was farming, which he loved. In his early farming years, he worked building missile silos near his home. He later worked in assembly at Cessna, as a commodity broker at Peavey, and various other jobs during the winters. However, one of his greatest joys was trucking for Farmer's Oil. Jack loved fast cars and kept his vehicles immaculately clean, as well as his trucks, tractors, and other farming equipment. Self-admittedly, Jack could be demanding and "black-and-white" in his expectations. He was also gracious, loyal, and generous. Through his work and hobbies, Jack developed lifelong friendships. In everything Jack did he gave credit to the Lord and knew that his work was in service to Him, not for himself. As he cared for the land, he always reminded those around him that while we are its caretakers, the land ultimately belongs to God.
Jack was dedicated to serving the Lord alongside his Milton United Methodist Church family. He spent countless hours volunteering for the church. He played many roles, from Sunday school teacher to treasurer to janitor. He enjoyed orchestrating events such as the annual church garage sale and Halloween parties in the shed. He served his community and township similarly. There wasn't a bigger fan of local youth sports teams, especially his children and grandchildren's. His calendar was filled with ballgames.
Jack's Christian faith was central in his life and it showed in the way he cared for his family and friends. He loved his wife Judy unconditionally for over 60 years and their partnership in life was an inspiration to many. He was a loving and dedicated father, grandpa and great-grandpa.
Jack is survived by his wife Judy; children Rex (Elle) Casner of Wichita, KS and Dixie (Dean) Brewster of Milton, KS; grandchildren Amy (James) Dorsch of St. Louis, MO, Sam Casner of Richmond, VA, Anna Casner of Manhattan, KS, Grace Casner of Santa Barbara, CA, Blake Brewster of Clearwater, KS, Ali (Wade) Hopper of Cheney, KS; and great-grandchildren Charlotte (7) and Simon (5) Dorsch and Kinley (4) and Auburn (2) Hopper.
