James Pottorff Obituary

Pottorff, James P. 74, retired cattle rancher and farmer, died Friday, May 23, 2003 at Via Christi-St. Frances Hospital, Wichita. He was born Nov. 26, 1928 in Wichita to the late Lisle John and Anne R. Carney Pottorff. He was a graduate of Wichita Cathedral High School and attended Kansas State University earning an Associate Degree of Applied Science. Mr. Pottorff was a veteran of the Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and served as district deputy, president of Rock Creek Joint Watershed District Board. He also served on the Rock Creek Township Board, Douglass Public Library Board and Douglass Fire Board. On Dec. 20, 1951, he married Catherine I. Stover at Arkansas City. She survives. Also surviving: brother, Rev. Lisle J. Pottorff Jr. of Douglass; sons and daughters-in-laws, James P. Jr. and Judy of Lawrence, Richard M. of Sunnyvale, CA., Michael L. and Cindy of Lawrence, Mark D. and Peggy of Sgt. Bluff, IA, Stephen L. of Great Bend, Timothy A. and Meaghan of Carpentersville, IL; daughter and son-in-law, Mary E. and Tim Hill of Burnsville, MN; 12 grandchildren. Rosary and visitation 7 p.m. Sunday; Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 a.m. Monday, both at St. James Catholic Church; interment at Calvary Cemetery, Augusta. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to St. James Catholic School and Douglass Public Library. Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta.
