Jerry Seery Obituary

Jerry Seery
June 27, 1947 - July 22, 2022
Wichita, Kansas - Jerry Allan Seery, 75, left this side of life on July 22, 2022. He was born in Lakin, KS on June 27, 1947 in a country doctor's office with his father, Ralph, assisting.
Jerry was preceded in death by his sister Vicki M. Seery, Aug. 11, 1970, his mother Arleta E. Seery (Smith), Dec. 31, 2020, and his father, Ralph Seery, Jan. 18, 2021.
He leaves behind his wife Anita M. Seery (Schwint), six children: Jacqulyn M. VanBeek (Seery) (Rodney) of Louisville, KY, Jason M. Seery (Andrea Gast) of Savannah, GA, David A. Smith (Heather Wolley) of Wichita, KS, Daren J. Smith (Theresa Cox) of Big Lake, MN, Jared C. Seery (Stephanie Cloud) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Joshua P. Seery (Jennifer Roth) of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren: Joseph Aylward (Kacee Maness), Jesse Seery (Natalie Sykes), Justin Lawhon (Kayla Umholtz), Jamie VanBeek, and Jenni VanBeek, all of Wichita, Lukas Seery, Gavin Seery, and Josephine Cosentino (Joey) of GA, Steven Cox, Jesse Cox, and Meghan Cox of MN, Matthew Cox of WV, Christina Poole and Carri Poole of KS, Lauren Poole of AR, Andrew Poole of OK, and Jameson Seery of TX; great-grandchildren: Kaydence Aylward of Wichita, James Cosentino of GA, and Jace Seery and Julien Lawhon, both of Wichita. He is also survived by his brother Donald S. (Bonnie Batman) of Wichita.
Jerry attended Seltzer Elementary, Curtis Junior High, Middle, and East High Schools in Wichita. He served in the Army and was stationed in Okinawa for two years during the Vietnam War. He was an avid genealogist and held a Masters in both Aeronautical Engineering and Anthropology from WSU. He was fortunate to participate in a dig in Mesa Verde, spending his summer doing something he loved. Jerry used his other degree for his aviation passion working for Cessna and then Boeing for over 40 years. In his younger years, he owned a drag race car and then a midget sprint race car with his driver Jim Colburn, racing at Wichita International Raceway and 81 Speedway. Jerry and Jim also co-owned a small machinist shop on South Hillside. He also held a pilot's license in the 1970s and enjoyed flying around KS visiting family and looking at historic sites. In his middle years, he was an active participant in Frontiersman groups, Civil War Reenactments, and doing genealogy research traveling across the country with his family. An Eagle Scout himself, Jerry was an active member and leader in Pack and Troop 614 in Wichita where Jason, Jared, and Josh all attended and eventually became Eagle Scouts too.
As it can been seen, he was a jack of all trades and a master of most of them. Jerry was an amazing husband and father, as well as a kind and giving man; who will be missed by family and friends for years to come. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

So sad to hear of Jerry's passing. I knew both Jerry and Ralph when Jerry and I (also and Eagle scout) were in boy scouts. As a construction contract analyst at Boeing, I knew some of Ralph's friends at Eby and they talked about how Ralph was devastated when Vicky died. May God give you comfort and joyful memories.

Rest Jerry, until you hear at dawn, the low, clear reveille of God.
Thank you for your service to this nation. U.S. Army, Vietnam Era.
