Dear Lorraine and Family,
I was so saddened to hear of John's passing. He made such a profound impression on EC and his art career, and I'm sure many, many other students over the years. He was a sweet and interesting man - we enjoyed having him as our guest when he came to Denver to do a visiting artist workshop for EC at Metro State. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Lorraine and Family,
We shared an office at WSU in 1973,,,John, Steve Berman and myself (all new art instructors). As a sabbatical replacement for John Fincher, I was only there a year, but I've carried, for nearly forty years, memories of that year of getting to know John and Steve as friends and colleagues. An accomplished artist/printmaker, John's memory will live on through his art and the people that he touched in this life. Tears and Happiness to you all. Steve Scott

Lorraine,
John is and will remain so very fondly in our hearts and minds even after all these years away from Wichita. He was one of the most straight-forward people I've ever known and I enjoyed arguing with him almost as much as agreeing with him. And I always valued his insights, not to mention his provocative art, two of which still hang in our home. May your sadness be lightened by his life so fully lived and by the knowledge of the many lives he has touched.

John was a wickedly creatively artist, a kind and gentle soul, a mentor and friend to his many students, and a delight to his family. It was only last week that I told someone about our impromptu bowling “Holy Roller Team” of the late ‘70's, comprised of a few art students and John, gathered at the WSU student center on occasional Fridays, which we jokingly referred to as Bowling for Grades. I was a pleasure to know him during the last 32 years .
I was touched that he and Lorraine attended my father's funeral service last year, and wish I were able to attend his today. He will be missed.

Lorraine, my condolences - so sorry. John was a favorite teacher, mentor, friend, companion and artistic influence to the late Tom Siegman. Tom and I both spent many enjoyable hours with John, and with you, of course, although it has been many years now. John will be missed by so many who are still around today, but I wanted to mention this long ago friendship. Best to you and your family in this time. Thinking of you and remembering fondly so many good times in Wichita. John's sense of humor was one-of-a-kind. Such a pleasure to have known him. With love, -Cass
