John Gier Obituary

Gier, John "Jack" Of 2322 S. Washington, Wichita, KS, formerly of Ridgway, PA, died April 5, 2017. John was born on June 5, 1925, in Ridgway PA, son of Alois Lee and Anna (Bowers) Gier. On April 15, 1950, he married Theresa Schneider. John retired from Clarion Sintered Metals in Ridgway. John was drafted into the US Army on October 11, 1944. John was assigned to the 9th Armored Division, 60th Armored Infantry Battalion. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge, Battle of the Rhine and the Battle of Central Europe. John was honorably discharged As a corporal on August 29, 1946. John is survived by six children, Betty Schwahn of Udall, KS, John M. Gier of St. Marys, PA, Judy (John) Longhi of Kersey, PA, Carol (Skip) Eckert of Emporium, PA, Janet (Roger) Campbell of San Antonio, TX, and Jeff (Kim) Gier of Wichita, KS; 9 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa; his parents; and 7 siblings, Cecile Johnson, Grace Cyone, Pearl Plaster, Ruby Gibbs, Amos Gier, Aloysius Gier and Virginia Stauffer. He was a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose Ridgway PA Lodge 1183. John was an avid card player and horseshoe Pitcher. He is probably already organizing both of those events in the hereafter. I never knew my great grandpa John C gier that munch because I only met him when I was a little kid but I do know that he was probably one of the most coolest guy u could know. Rest in piece you will be loved and remembered

My sympathies to the immediate and extended family of Jack Gier. I knew him and all of his brothers and sisters and their families, worked with some and played with some as a child. I am honored to have had this family so strongly in my life for so long a time. Rest well Jack, again my sympathies to the entire family.
