I too was good friends in grade school with John. His leadership showed at an early age. He was the guy everyone wanted to be friends with, and be like. I know that these traits even got stronger as he got older. It is so sad he had to leave us so early. I know that he made a lot of peoples lives better. He will be missed

Dear Markham family,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your son. I didn't really know John but remember his sisters and brother Joe who was in my class at Wamego High School. I will be thinking of your family. Sincerely, Mary (Ault) Schulz, Holton, Kansas

I am very saddened to learn of the passing of John. John was a grade school friend of mine and I fondly
remember shooting and playing countless games of basketball on his backyard court and when he would take me to the High School to shoot hoops while his dad did the laundry. I am sure he will me missed by all who have known him. My thoughts and prayers to his wife and family.

I have many fond grade school memories of John, including spirited basketball games on the Markham backyard court, and the fabulous Halloween Haunted House.

Tina and Annette,
I just wanted to express my heartfelt sympathy and prayers for you and your family during this time. I worked for you over 20 years ago at your Child care/Nanny school. Kyle and Ashley were just little kids, then. My heart goes out to all of you.
God bless you,

I was blest enough to have Coach Markham as both a history teacher and a tennis coach and it was always impressive to see how much passion he had for both. In just the four years that I was there, Coach Markham helped the tennis program in Goddard make great strides: new high quality courts were built, school and summer tournaments were hosted, and a Junior High team was started. Thank you for all of your contributions to the school, the city, and to me.

Mr. (Coach) Markham --- you were and are such an inspiration and roll model. It will be difficult to imagine life without you; but I know you would want nothing but the best for your students. A couple of years ago I was honored to say you were my support and my teacher. You are my angel.

Tina & Family -- as the young teenagers today use their phones by text messaging & face booking, it was sad to hear of Mr. Markham's passing. As a parent, he always encouraged my twins, Mitchell & Allan, to do their best. Parent / Teachers conferences were always a breeze with him. He was a very kind person. Mr. Markham had a great attitude and positive outlook on life. I'm sure the halls at Robert Goddard Middle School are a little quieter than normal with this news, at least for a little while. God Bless.

Mr. Markham was my high school teacher. He was the most impressionable teacher I had! Satanta missed him when he left.. but from what I have heard, Goddard gained a great teacher/friend that was loved as much as we all loved him. He will be missed!

My deepest sympathy to your family. I always admired and respected John as a teacher, coach and especially as a kind and giving individual. As a former Goddard School Board member, I was so very proud that John was on our staff. I thanked John at every opportunity for setting such a fine example for our students, setting high standards for everyone - and all accomplished in his usual quiet and humble manner. He will be greatly missed. Memory Eternal. Terese Shumaker Johnson.

There was something so quiet yet so strong about John. All those who knew him loved him. It will be difficult to not see him at school anymore. His memory will always linger on those tennis courts. He will be deeply missed but always loved. I love you, Tina, and think the world of you. You will continue to be in my prayers!

Mr. Markham was a great teacher and a great man he changed the lives of many he was a great friend I am very happy to have had the privilege to have known him. It seems impossible that he has left us, but he has went home and he is waiting for us but until that day he will always be with us and he will be comforting us, making us laugh, and watching over us. He was without a doubt the best teacher I had. May God hold you all in his arms and bring comfort to you all.

Tina, Ashley, Kyle, and all of John's family--
My deepest sympathies to you all. My heart is broken for you. On a day-to-day basis, my relationship with John was short and now long ago. But, our friendship has endured over the miles and years. How could it not? I loved John. I am envious of him; in so many ways, he is who I would like to be. As you know, his family was his greatest love here on earth. He was so devoted to you,Tina. And he never talked to me without first getting me updated on Ashley and Kyle. My prayers are with John and all of you as well. Keep the faith!

I have not seen John since H.S. but my memories of John will always be those of a very principled, warm, and quiet leader amongst us. There was something special about John and I can only imagine how many people he has touched in the same way throughout the years. My sympathies to his family.

Tina and family, so sorry to hear of Coach's death. You have such a special place in my memories from Satanta. I loved having you as a teacher and John as a coach. I always wished I could have been in his History class in high school! Thank you for always showing your students how to strive to be their best in all aspects of life.
