Joyce Marie Knapp RN

AUGUSTA Knapp RN, Joyce Marie (Turnquist), beloved mother and grandmother, entered her eternal home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 25, 2014 at the age of 86. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Headley Funeral Chapel. Funeral service is 10:30 am Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Joyce was born September 9, 1927 in Jamestown, North Dakota. She lived in an orphanage until she and her brother Richard were adopted by Helmer and Treva Turnquist. In November 1965, Joyce married Darrell Eugene Knapp. He preceded her in death in 2007. She is also preceded in death by her parents and brother. Joyce had worked as a housekeeper, cook for USD #402, and a registered nurse at the Augusta Regional Medical Complex. She later taught at Butler Community College in the Allied Health Department, where she received a nomination as Outstanding Instructor in 2010. Joyce volunteered for several organizations, including the American Red Cross, Eastern Star, 4-H, the Hospital Auxiliary of Kansas and the National Federation of Republican Women. She is survived by son Chuck Knapp (Chelle); daughter Mary Statton (Ken); grandchildren Michael Knapp, Joshua Knapp, Daniel Knapp, Lily Knapp, Steven Statton and Philip Dunson; and her extended family, Mike and Kathy Tipton, Ruby Hubbard, Kara Tipton Smith and her children Kaleb and Chloe. Memorial donations may be made to the Augusta First Baptist Church or the American Red Cross.
