Kathryn Halfman Obituary

Kathryn E Halfman

October 3, 1944 - February 21, 2025

Wichita, Kansas - Kathryn E. Halfman passed away on February 21, 2025 at the age of 80. Kathryn was born to Andrew and Evelyn Denny on October 3, 1944, in Wichita, KS where she attended Wichita High School East and then graduated from Wichita University in 1966 with a bachelor's in elementary education.

She taught school for four years before going back to school at the original St. Joseph Hospital's School of Nursing. She passed the State Boards receiving the 2nd highest grade in the state that year and became a registered nurse in 1974. She then went on to work at St. Joseph's Hospital for eight years and including serving as a charge nurse on her floor.

Kathryn was a devout Christian, a baptized and active member of the United Methodist Church, most recently attending Andover UMC. Kathy lived her faith by committing much of her life and efforts to the service and caring support of others through Meals on Wheels but was most proud of her 30+ years as a volunteer Hospice respite caregiver. She shared that faith with family and friends, having a much greater impact on those around her than she will ever know, and for which we are grateful.

Kathryn is survived by her Husband of 52 years Michael Halfman, brother Douglas Denny (Janice), half-sister Jean Berg, nieces Laura Sumner (Allen), Lisa Burton, and nephews Darrell Denny (Jennifer), Bill Burton (Tina Guthrie, fiancée), and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Carolyn Gardner.

A Celebration of Kathy's life will be held on Thursday June 5 at 1 p.m. at Andover United Methodist Church located at 1429 N. Andover Rd., Andover, KS 67002. Light refreshments will follow.

We are forever grateful for the numerous caregivers that provide love and support for Kathy. In lieu of flowers we would encourage donations to the faith of your choice.

I loved Kathy. I will miss her. I knew her from a young age through my parents JoAnne and Terry Neal. She was in close contact with me when each of my parents passed. They considered her a close friend. I enjoyed our Epworth UMC group, monthly lunches. Kathy never forgot a birthday nor anniversary. She always wrote me the best letters. Kay Reissig and family.
