L. Iorio Obituary

Iorio, L. Richard Richard Iorio was born in Coffeyville, KS on June 17, 1943 and died August 17, 2018 in Wichita, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen June Carey Iorio and Ralph Joseph Iorio. He attended international, military, and public schools because his father's U.S. Air Force career took the family to posts in England; Germany; Guam; Enid, OK; Rantoul, IL; and Wichita, KS. Mr. Iorio studied at Manheim University (Germany) and the University of Maryland. An attorney, he was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma College of Law. Mr. Iorio began his career in the late 1960s as a Special Agent within the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He subsequently held positions at United Airlines, Champlin Petroleum, and Oakwood National Bank in Enid, OK were he served as President. During the 1970s, he was elected Regional President of his professional association, the American Society of Industrial Security. He returned to government service in 1988 and became Director of Investigations Midwest States for the Resolution Trust Corporation U.S. Department of Treasury. During this time he supervised RTC Whitewater investigations which resulted in five Whitewater federal fraud convictions. He relocated to Wichita during retirement where he was elected President of the Hillside Christian Church congregation for two terms and was a member of the University of Oklahoma President's Associates. He continued to manage his family's farming and investment interests in Oklahoma until his death. He married Sharon Hartin in 1965 and was the father of three sons. He loved travel, "yard work" and, most especially, golf. He made golf a holiday tradition and family sport by teaching his sons to be competitive golfers. He was exceedingly proud that four of his six grandchildren are currently middle- and high-school team golfers. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon; one sister, Judy (Don) Davis of Denver, CO; sons, Russell (Stacey) of Joplin, MO, Richard (Natasha) of San Diego, CA, Robert (Codie) of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Anna and Julia Iorio (Russell's children), Nicholas and Isabella Iorio (Richard's children), and Lauren and Molly Iorio (Robert's children). Visitation will be from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm, Friday, August 24, 2018, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Graveside Service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid, OK, with reception following at Oakwood Country Club, Enid, OK.
