Linda Flakes Obituary

Linda Flakes
July 16, 1947 - October 1, 2022
Wichita, Kansas - My Beloved wife of over 57 years, Linda Flakes died unexpectedly Saturday, October 1, 2022. She was born Linda Margaret McDonald July 16, 1947 in Lumberton, North Carolina. She left 3 daughters Gigi, Nikki, and Jamie and 5 grandchildren, each of whom she loved deeply and personally. Her accomplishments were immense and far too many to list. She was my wife, my lover, the very air I breathed. She was a great Substitute Teacher, a wonderful grandmother and mother. She was an accomplished Director of Religious Formation programs that had as many as 700 students. She was a Lay Pastoral Administrator in the Catholic Church and was allowed to give Reflections at Liturgy. She developed and wrote Ethics procedures for Hospitals. I think she was so proud to become a 1st Degree Black Belt in Tae Quan Do at the age 58. She was an incredible photographer and many of her pictures and much of her story can be found on hers and my website uniquelyus.net. Most of all she was filled with love, for me and everyone she met.
I miss rubbing her feet, her smile and just her most telling and wonderful looks she would give me.
I miss you beyond words and I will find you even if it takes eternity. Linda very much believed in God and us. She is not gone as she will be with me and you forever.
She believed as I do that everyone was entitled to good health care so any memorials should be given to Hunter Health Care Clinic in Wichita. They provide health care for those who otherwise would not have any.
Her forever devoted husband, John

Our friend, John Black, told me of your incredible loss. There are no words that can console when we lose our beloved spouse and mother. It may sound like I'm minimizing Jesus, but the Holy Eucharist consoled me greatly, knowing I was touching Jesus, who was touching my husband. The first 8 weeks are the most difficult. Your mouth will be dry most of that time, so keep water, gum, and hard candies on hand to help with that discomfort. My brother Tom, a nurse, explained to me that the dry mouth comes from the adrenaline that courses through us when our world is turned upside down by loss. May God bless all of you until you are reunited in the new heaven and the new earth. Joanne Horn
