Lindall Hurley Obituary

NEWTON - Hurley, Lindall (Lindy) K., age 50, died in Newton, KS on June 28, 2007. He was known by the nickname of "Big Daddy" to many of his friends. Born on June 28, 1957 in Plainville, KS, he was a Para Educator employed by the Newton Unified School District. He is survived by a daughter, Holly Beth Hurley of Newton, and two sons, Lynn Dylan Hurley and Kelsey Lee Hunter-Akers, both of Chicago, IL. Mr. Hurley graduated from Newton High School in 1975 where he was active in sports, academics and student government. He graduated with an A.A. from Dodge City Community College in 1978. He went on to attend Kansas State University, graduating in 1981 with a B.A. in History and a minor in Social Studies. As a youth, Lindy participated in 4-H and FFA. He was an accomplished cattle showman, raising and fitting several champion steers. During the 70's Lindy showed Grand Champions at the Mid-America Fair in Topeka and the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. He also showed Champion Lambs at the American Royal in Kansas City and the National Western Stock Show in Denver. After graduating from Kansas State, Lindy held sales, management and ownership positions in the beverage, retail and food services industries. He was an accomplished chef. However, toward the end of his life, Lindy found his true calling working as an educator of high school students with special needs. He was happiest when he could help a young person move forward in life. The love he held for his students was reciprocated in kind. Throughout his life, Lindy looked for ways to help those in need. When we was the proprietor of the Chuck Wagon Restaurant in Lindsborg, KS he opened on Thanksgiving and Christmas Days and served free meals only to needy individuals. Lindy is survived by his parents Dr. Pryce K. and Lorene Hurley and his siblings, Susan Yoshiwara of Los Angeles, California, Shelley Hurley of Blanco, Texas, Lance Hurley of Livingston, New Jersey, Shawn Hurley-Russell of Newton, Kansas as well as 7 nieces and nephews. "What a wonderful God we have-He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of every mercy,
and the one who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials. And why does He do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement,
we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us." 2 Corinthians1:3-4 ... Lance, we are so so sorry to hear about the sudden loss of your brother - Please know that are heartfelt prayers are with you and your family.
