Otto Meyer Obituary

MARION - Meyer, Otto W. "Bill," 81, retired Marion County Record Editor and Publisher, died Nov. 14, 2006 at HCA Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Zeiner Funeral Home; service 2 p.m. Friday, Valley United Methodist Church; burial with military honors will be at Marion Cemetery. Mr. Meyer was born Aug. 6, 1925 in Pratt, Kan., the son of Otto and Ruth Jones Meyer. On Sept. 11, 1949 he married Joan Wight at Marion. He has lived in Marion since the late 1940's. He was an Army veteran serving in WWII in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Meyer was trustee of the William Allen White Foundation at Emporia, on the board of directors of the Central National Bank, past president of the Kansas Press Association, co-chairman of the Kansas Newspaper Foundation, on the board of directors of the Kansas State Historical Society and editor of the 99th Infantry Division Association "Checkerboard." Survivors: wife, Joan; son, Eric of Champaign, Ill.; sister, Elaine Weaver of Austin, Texas; 1 grandchild; 1 great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to the Meyer Family Trust Fund with the Kansas Newspaper Foundation or St. Luke Hospital, Marion.
