Berryman, Penny Paulette (Payne) went to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 30, 2012. Penny was born February 20, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her father and one sister, Laura Judd. Penny was a living example of what we all want to be! She was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother (MiMi) and a good friend to anyone that needed one. She lived her life as an angel dedicated to others. Penny was a born champion! She was first runner-up in the Miss Kansas for the Miss USA Pageant. As an accomplished water skier, she clinched and won third in the Nationals Water Skiing Championship. After marrying her dream man, Dick Berryman, she went back to her first love which was fishing. Penny was a Daddy's girl and he introduced her to the sport, so it should come to know surprise that she turned her hobby into an amazing career. She truly pioneered and achieved the highest honors in the fishing industry. Her greatest accomplishment was when Penny won the Bass N' Gals "Angler of the Year" award in 1997. In 2004, Penny was inducted into the Legends of the Outdoors National Hall of Fame. It was no easy road to get there, but she made it, determined to make a friend and leave a footprint to all who wanted to follow. She will be greatly missed by all. Penny is survived by husband Dick Berryman; son, Sam Berryman; daughter, Lisa Berryman Lowry (Danny), grandchildren Luke, Dylan & Taylor; mother, Dottye Payne Slaven of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Johnna Payne Smith (Chuck) of Augusta, Kansas, Darlinda Harpstrite of California & many niece, nephews and a host of wonderful friends. Penny was one of my favorite fishing buddies when I was fishing the lady's trails in the 80's and 90's. We shared a room many times and I am ashamed of myself for not staying in touch with her when I had to quit fishing the trail. Penny will be missed by many and the fishing industry has lost a person that cared very much about the sport. Rhonda Robertson Wilcox......

So sorry to learn of the loss of a special person. Penny was the happiest and most thoughtful person. I will always remember her joy at Lake Sunset and will miss knowing she is brightening someone's day. Heaven has now gotten better by her presence.

I am so sorry to hear Penny is no longer with us. I had heard she was ill and had followed her through friends for several years.

Clyde never go to see Penny succeed with her fishing. He would have been so proud of her accomplishments. Now Clyde has a fishing partner once again.

Thinking of the sisters and Dotie in this time of sadness.
