Richard attended St. Mary's College High School in San Bernardino, CA and upon graduation left for 4 years of service with the United States Air Force. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to CA to become a barber before eventually moving to Wichita, KS in 1967 to pursue a career in law enforcement. While working as a traffic officer he met Donna Peery who would become the love of his life. They were married on Oct 12, 1968. Their family increased by one when their son, Sean, came along in 1970. While working as a police officer for the City of Wichita, Richard earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Friends University in 1974. Richard would continue to work as a police office for 22 years, retiring as Captain in 1988. Still wanting to serve and protect his community, Richard worked as an investigator for the Kansas Securities Commission for five years before accepting the position of Police Chief in Wellington, KS for eight and half years. Richard would go on to serve the people of Wellington as their Mayor for one term and then as a city council member. Richard was a little league football coach and a Scout Master. He enjoyed hunting, outdoor activities and attending live sporting events.
In 2015, Richard and Donna moved back to Wichita to enjoy their retirement and to be closer to their granddaughter, Isabelle. Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Fran Granger, father, Willian Granger and twin brother, Arthur Granger. Survivors include his wife, Donna Granger; son, Sean Granger and granddaughter, Isabelle Granger all of Wichita, KS; two nieces, Tammy and Karen and a sister-in-law, Margie Granger of CA.
