Robert Hanson Obituary

Robert Hanson
November 17, 1952 - October 4, 2021
Palo Alto, California - Robert J. Hanson, 68 years old, son of Robert and Vivian Hanson, Wichita, KS, went to be with the Lord, Monday, October 4th, in Palo Alto, CA. He is survived by his wife, Katie, children, Maddie, R.J. and Mathew; mother, Vivian Hanson, siblings, Marci Meeks (Tom), Steve and Stewart Hanson; grandchild, Agnes; nephews and nieces, Kelly, Ashlyn, Keegan, Luke, Sullie, Grayson, Cole and Brooks. Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert A. Hanson.
Robert grew up in Manhattan and Kansas City, Kansas, graduated from Pembroke Hill, Kansas City, MO 1970, attended and graduated from the University of Kansas where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. While in Lawrence, he worked at Mister Guys which led to a fruitful career in the clothing business, first with Ralph Lauren and then eventually opening his own store named Afterwards in Menlo Park, CA.
Robert loved his Jayhawks, San Francisco Giants and talking sports with his sons and brothers. He mostly loved watching his sons play and excel at baseball and playing with his granddaughter, Agnes. Although being away from Kansas for over 40 years, he always loved coming back to be with family and getting to eat at his favorite restaurant, Strouds. He loved driving through the Flint Hills like his father. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

I was so very sorry to read about Bob's passing. He helped me put together my living room when I downsized my home. I loved stopping into the store, having a chat with Bob, and looking around for something unique. I will miss our impromptu conversations about life in Menlo Park. My deepest sympathy to the family. Bob will be greatly missed.

Katie and family, I can not say how shocked and saddened I was to hear of Bob's passing. He always remembered me and had a moment for a word or two when I saw him at his store. I am so terribly sorry for your loss. He will be greatly missed in MP but I know much more so in your family. Rebecca

So sorry to hear of Bob´s passing! He was always so warm and friendly and engaging. I will have a new appreciation for my white vintage table recollecting the day that I bought it from Bob, site unseen, over the phone from a photo. :) He was the consummate business man always giving a fair deal and a friendly smile, making his customers/clients feel welcome and appreciated! He had much to teach people!
My condolences to Katie & family and all of the "Afterwards" team! May you feel the warmth of Bob´s love and goodness always, and may you feel his blessings from Heaven.

Your celebration of life at the Ritz sounds so lovely and fitting! We are on Cape Cod until Christmas so will sadly miss it, but will make a special trip there another day to raise a toast to your beloved Bob! He left an amazing legacy of family and friends and admiring clientele. Thank you, Bob! Well done! May you Rest In Peace!

He had a gentle smile that seemed playful as well. I send my love and prayers for strength for the journey onward for Katie and their family.

I´m deeply saddened by the loss of Bob, I was a customer but I felt like I was his and Katie´s friend. We enjoyed talking about our kids who played baseball, and our kids in general. He always donated to NCEFT every time I ask, no questions just a generous donation. I will miss him too. My prayers go out to his family- praying for peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Bob's passing will have an impact on so many people who had their own special relationship with Bob. Be they family, friends or customers of Afterwards, Bob took time to "befriend" all those he talked with, joked with and enjoyed. I've know Bob and Katie through their store for many years and have felt lucky to have a place to go where it felt like I was visiting family. These losses hit hard and I will miss Bob very much.
