Rodney Lansdowne Obituary

Lansdowne, Rodney Douglas Rodney Douglas Lansdowne passed peacefully at home on September 22, 2017 in Houston, Texas, at the age of 76. Rodney was born to James Douglas Lansdowne and Velma Ione Mauck on November 9, 1940 in Wichita, Kansas. He attended Robinson Intermediate, Oklahoma Military Academy, and graduated from Wichita High School East in 1958. Rodney was inducted into DeMolay and served as Master Councilor of the Wichita Chapter in 1961. Rodney attended Wichita State University, where he studied business, and Spanish and French languages. Patricia was caring for him at his death. He will be remembered fondly as a loving, fun, and supportive father. Rodney was a licensed Master Plumber and proprietor of the Lansdowne Plumbing Company on East Central until 1994. Rodney then worked for Nelson Plumbing until retiring. Rodney was the third generation in a family trade that began with gas lighting. Rodney's passion was the competitive shooting sports. Rodney was a leader in the club's shooting education and marksmanship program, collaborating with the Kansas Hunter Education Program at Lake Afton, and with local Boy Scout troops, indoor ranges, and other youth and adult outreach opportunities. Rodney qualified to try out for the US Olympic team for 1972 and 1978. As a Master Class competitor, Rodney was several times State Champion for Indoor Pistol, Outdoor Pistol, NRA Hunter Pistol, a winner at the 1978 IHMSA International Championship, and traveled to regional and national matches to maintain and distinguish himself. Rodney last served ACGC as club President in 2005, and is recalled by leaders as a mentor. Rodney was Baptized at East Heights Methodist Church. From 1995 through 1997 Rodney served on the Trustee Board of Bethel United Methodist Church, while simultaneously President of ACGC. During this time, the sale of the parsonage was transacted. Rodney also served the church as Lay Member to Annual Conference. Rodney is survived by his first wife Patricia Lansdowne and children, Elisa Lansdowne, Catherine Lansdowne, and Chatwin and wife Samme Lansdowne, and grandchildren Ian and Erin Lansdowne. Rodney and I will have a LOT to talk about in heaven! Wouldn't be surprised if he and Daddy were enjoying doing some trap shooting together . . .

Oh, the picture I sent before? It's of cousins "Sonny" and "Buddy" and, in front, Rodney and myself

Dear family - I will never forget my cousin Rodney! Even tho we never got to be together a lot or know each other well (most of the things written about him here were unknown to me!) he was important to me and I still treasure the pictures I have of him from when we were kids! I'm praying right now for all of you even if I do not know you personally - you are "family" and I love you! May God draw us all closer to Him - and to each other thru Him!

We may not have stayed in touch throughout our adult years - but as children - my cousins, including Rod, were my favorite friends . . . I appreciate finding out so much about him now and could wish I had known him - and his family - better all this time . . . I send my loving condolences to all of you and share your loss and hopes to be reunited one day . . .
