In 2006 Ron founded his national consulting firm, Loewen Consulting, in Columbia. During this time, he served as the executive director of the USC Technology Incubator for several years. As President of the firm, he served on the board of an international, industry-leading high-tech data company, Weather Central. He was also on the board of the highly successful media tech company, Digitalsmiths. He provided service as a board member for the Associated Press Broadcast Board; chairman of the University of South Carolina College of Journalism and Mass Communications Partnership Board; a member of Board of Visitors at USC; a member of Columbia Urban League; and was President of the South Carolina Broadcaster Association. He received the Honorary Life Membership Award from the South Carolina Broadcaster Association, an award that honors those who have served broadcasting by making significant contributors to the industry. He also served in the Kansas Air National Guard. Surviving are his wife, Lisa S. Hutto; step-daughters, Frances Hayden Hutto, Anne Hollins Hutto and Mary Hayes Hutto; sisters, Tamara Loewen and Cynthia "Cindy" Loewen. Ron was the President of my fraternity at Emporia, Kansas. He influenced and shaped my life in ways that I wasn't even aware of at the time. He was someone that we looked up to and knew was special. He helped to make us all at Sigma Tau Gamma better people. When he graduated and moved on, I remember the sense of loss, of his leadership and presence. Today, learning of his passing, stuns and saddens me beyond words. He was a great leader and a wonderful human being. I could only hope to one day be a fraction of the man that he was. It was an honor to know you Ron. Thank You for being part of my life. May God rest your soul.

I built Ron's house in Wichita and lived with him for a time in the Mid 80's. But ultimately he was a true friend to me during a difficult time in my life. He was a kind and caring man and I want to say thank you.
