Dear Bob, Nancy, Barbara, Richard, and Swisher Family,

I am Jeff Farmer, close friend, school mate, neighbor, fellow Boy Scout, and East High grad with Bill. We grew up together on Sennett Street in Wichita, attended church together, school together (from kindergarten through high school), and Scouts. The Farmer and Swisher families were in the Future Finders class together at Central Christian Church, thereby allowing the children to make many wonderful memories together over the years. I still have photographs and even some movie footage of the Swisher's and Farmers together. My parents were at the airport welcoming Bill's dad, Bill Sr., home from his military service. Bill Sr. (we called him "Doc") was one of my Scout leaders (he taught me how to cook over an open fire), and he also was the physician who delivered my son at Wesley hospital. Bill Jr. and I had wonderful experiences together camping with the Scouts of Troop 405. I remember carrying him on my back when walking was difficult or impossible...both in Scouts, at church camp, and in the neighborhood. I always thought of Bill as a courageous friend, facing challenges the rest of us did not understand, and he did it with determination and grace. I recall his smile was so welcoming. On behalf of the entire Farmer family, we send our love and prayers at this time of loss, knowing that for every sunset on earth, there is a sunrise in heaven. I am so grateful Bill can now run, and dance, and leap with a freedom he did not enjoy on earth. What a grand inheritance, through his Lord Jesus Christ, Bill now has in heaven. I am thrilled for him, but send my sympathy and prayers to Bob (we were on the East High swim team together), Nancy (I remember your long, flowing brown hair), Barbara (the cute little blonde sister), and the baby at that time who we called "Dickey" (must be Richard)...and to the rest of the Swisher family.

I was the daughter of Don L. Butler, and Bill and my Daddy were the very best of friends. Some of my fondest memories as a child involved going to swim at one of Bill's brother's pools at the apartments by Woodlawn and Central and having the most wonderful omlets after our swim made by Bill's brother, I'm thinking Dick. I can remember those big ol' Saint Bernards, and Bill teasing me about a song that I loved and always would reguest on the radio, "Please Mr. Please." He was such a wonderful friend to my Daddy and Momma, and my brother's and I will always cherish those wonderful memories. You never know how you touch the life of a child, but Bill touched mine in a Big Way. Praying for you all!!

So sorry to hear about Bills death. I knew him from Boeing. I worked in the Boeing Employees' Association and got acquainted with Bill in 1979. Many times he would come and visit with me during his lunch hour. I retired in 2004 so I have not seen him since then but I did keep in contact with him on Facebook. I know he will be missed by so many!!

I think I worked with Bill at the McDonaldson North Hillside in 1967. Could this be? I remember he had an affliction and I very much enjoyed working with him. Was his brother in law Bob Garvey at WSU at the same time? John Torline

My sympathies to the Swisher family. Your mother always spoke of Bill when I did her hair and I have spoke of him as an inspiration to others who had MD and felt disabled. I would tell of how Bill went to work at Boeing because his brain was still good even though he couldn't walk into work. So happy he lived a long life and was a part of a special family. God Bless you all during this time of loss.
