I continue to count on having known Anand as a guide to interfaith work here in Kansas City. His openness to others of many faiths remains an inspiration. His friendship has shaped me dearly. We've updated the memorial to him on our website to mark the first anniversary: http://www.cres.org/Anand1.htm .

How sad we were to learn of Andandada's passing from this earth. Our sincerest condolences to Diptidi and family. How proud he was of their children and grandchildren.

It was through Anandada and Diptidi that we learned Dhruba had kin this side of the pond, and in fact, they themselves were kin! In 1997, we were in the Kansas City area visiting Andi's family. We wanted to try an Indian restaurant and what better way to learn where to go than to call up a Desi and ask where they like to eat. So Dhruba looked up the family name of Bhattacharya in the phone book and there was Andandada's name at the top of the list. Speaking in Bengali, Dhruba explained he was from out of town and could Anandada recommend a good Indian restaurant. Anandada kindly advised this stranger that he not only knew a good restaurant, he lived nearby so why don't we stop over for a visit after eating?
Well, that was a little more than we expected but he was so kind to fulfill our cold call request, so after dining at India Palace, we headed over and met Anandada and Diptidi. Diptidi's uncle from Chicago happened to be visiting, and after making introductions we began to discuss where we all hailed from. It turned out they had roots from Amhearst street in Kolkata. Within seconds, we threw around a few family names and realized that Diptidi's uncle was our uncle, too, and we were related!
Since then, we've stopped in to visit with Anandada and Diptidi and enjoyed their hospitality multiple times.
He was an impulsively kind and generous man and we will miss him.

Every time we see a photo of our dearest Ananda da who left us for his heavenly abode, the image that comes to our mind is that of an individual with a strong sense of community and a true passion for upholding the rich spiritual traditions and values he grew up in. He was an ardent and relentless seeker of truth till the very end of his earthly life and we were amply blessed to be a silent witness to that. His passion for disseminating the eternal knowledge of Sanatan Hindu Dharma was remarkable.

Anandada'a active participation in promoting interfaith dialogue reflects his largeness of heart and spirit.

He will remain as a beacon of light and inspiration in all our life. We miss him dearly and feel blessed to have known him. Our deepest condolences to Dipudi and her family. May his soul rest in peace.

Some people come into our lives and stay with us for longer whereas some leave us suddenly. Even though we do not realize that they are touching our lives in a very special way. We take their abundant contributions to our lives, to their family, and to the community for granted. We never foresee the cessation of that source some day. And when they suddenly leave us to meet the ultimate goal of life, it is then we urealize that they have left footprints on our hearts. From that very day our life can never be the same, the vacuum they leave behind can never be filled and the opportunity to express our gratitude will never be there for us. But their footprints take over as the guiding light for the next generation. That is when we know how blessed we are.

Some people are born to spread happiness, to become a driving force behind other's success, to reinforce the meaning of love, to redefine the important values of life, and to simply give, give and giveAnd we know that they have succeeded when one day we see the same traits in the people whose lives they have touched. We happen to be one of the fortunate ones to have known a person like that, Ananda da.

Success followed Ananda da in every step of his life, as a dedicated professinal, as a devoted husband, as an ideal father, as a model citizen and most importantly, as a good human being. His conviction for his profession, perseverance for excellence, high integrity, ability to inspire others, love for his family and faith in the Almighty were unequivocal that made Anada da a unique personality. Even though we were destined to have his blessings and camaraderie for such a short time, it is our responsibility to carry on the legacy he has left behind. This is not the time to immerse ourselves in sorrows for what you just lost, but we should feel privileged and gratified for what we had for all these years and cherish the beautiful memories with Ananda da for the rest of your life. We know he is in a much better place today looking down upon us wishing success and happiness in every aspect of life.

Jhuma and I admire and salute this larger than life legend and express our sincere condolences to the grieving family.
