Artis Thomas Obituary

Artis N. Thomas was born in Yazoo City, MS on August 11, 1948, and passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Art was preceded in death by his mother, Lela Thomas, his beloved son, Brian Thomas, and daughter Ebon`e L. Holmes. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Ella Thomas; his sons Aaron Thomas (Beverly) and Terry McCray (Shantai); daughters Cheryll Hill (Darrell) and Kristy Thomas. The matriarch of our family his aunt Rubbie Brown and sisters Ferlin Coates (Robert) and Rena Thomas. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren- Robert, Ryan, Julius, Briana (Jaron), Darius (Angel), Artez, Cynthia, Alise, Elliana, Tyree, Chelsi, Myles and great grandchildren Kingston, Woodson, Makenzie, Mar'Rion, Amarey, De'Ari, De'Cari, De'Monte, and Darius Jr.

His love is forever in the hearts of many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a number of friends all over the local area and around the country.

For 43 years, Art worked at the General Motors auto plant in Kansas City, KS where he started on the line and worked his way up to Superintendent at retirement. He loved his job and he loved the work. His humor, teacher sense, and willingness to assist others made his presence stand out as a clear leader. He was a member of the Greenwood Baptist Church where he worked as a trustee and drove the church bus. His ability to connect with everyone he crossed paths with meant he never knew a stranger, always sharing a smile or a story. In addition, he was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan. He held his tickets for 44 years and never missed a game for nearly 40 years. He will be missed at the games but his love of football and love for the team was unmatched.

Art's kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed. Services will be held on Saturday November 15 at Victorious Life Church 3400 Paseo KCMO 64109. Viewing 12-1, Service 1 p.m.

My dearest friend Ella. As a Christian we all have our seasons and we are God's children whom he love. He gave you Art for 48 good years of marriage. He was a great guy and I loved him because he loved you. It was God"s decision to reclaim him. Please know you are not left alone because he is with you as your comforter. May God continue to bless you and the family.

It was his time but it´s so sad! Art will always be a legend from GM and in my eyes. He was a force that didn´t force. One of the nicest men that I ever knew. He was a very big impact on everyone he had anything to do with. If he didn´t like you he wouldn´t even acknowledge you were there. He was a great great man! This world is different now knowing he is gone. But his teaching ways will live forever in all of us who worked with him. My condolences to his family.
