BARTON McWILLIAMS Obituary

A life-long resident of Missouri, Barton Dean McWilliams passed away on August 25, 2014, at the St. Luke's Hospice House with family members by his side. He bravely fought his cancer for 15 months. Bart was born on September 7, 1942, in Kansas City to Carl Dean and Ruth Virginia McWilliams. He grew up in Independence, MO, graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1960. After high school and 2 years of college Bart worked for SW Bell as a lineman and later as a Customer Service Technician, retiring after 35 years of service. After retiring from SW Bell, Bart worked 2 part-time jobs: One with KC Drive Away and also for the city of Lake Winnebago. His interests included his family, gardening, baking delicacies enjoyed by all who knew him, and a passion for fishing. He and his wife Blanche organized yearly crappie and bass tournaments, popular events enjoyed by many. Bart and Blanche recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary where he gave her a replica of her three-pound crappie. Throughout their marriage they enjoyed frequent trips as long as they involved family or fishing. Bart is survived by his spouse Blanche, children Andrew (Colene), Matt, Sara (Trampus), Katie (Steve), stepchildren, Eric (Linda), and Ginger (Craig). He also was Grandpa to 15 grandchildren ranging from 21 years old to newborn. His extended family included his sister Linda (Paul), other relatives and life-long friends. A celebration of life will be planned at a future time. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Luke's Hospice. Arrangements: Langsford Funeral Home 115 SW 3rd, Lee's Summit, Mo. 64063 (816) 524-3700

We are so sad to lose Barton - he was like an older brother to me. I especially remember his wonderful and insightful sense of humor, and, of course, his infectious laugh. We will miss him so very much.

We were privileged to know Bart through our son-in-law Andrew. Bart was a great husband, father and grandfather. He will be truly missed. Our hearts and prayers go out to the entire McWilliams family.

Bart showed my son, Joshua, how to fish. Of course, he did that for a whole bunch o' kids. He loved them all. Full of humor and patience, Bart was an original. Miss you, bro.

Thanks to every who befriended my dad. He was the best dad a girl could ask for and, I'm sure, a wonderful friend to all of you. For all of his fisherman (and women) buddies, a special "thanks" for sharing my dads true passion. He went out of this world listening to fishing and hunting stories with his sons and wife. That gives me peace and hope it does for you too.

Bart, you will truly be missed. I enjoyed getting to know you on the docks of Lake Winnebago, catching crappie and bass till we got tired of catching them. You did a wonderful job with the fishing tournaments out there and we all appreciate you taking the reigns on those.

Blanche and the rest of the family, my prayers are with you in your time of loss. Keep you heads up knowing Bart is in a better place, fishing on the Heavenly banks with Jesus.

God Bless

Blanche,

Sorry for your loss! I also greatly enjoy fishing and your 3 pound crappie is quite an accomplishment.
