Bernadine Schulte Obituary
Bernadine Schulte
October 21, 1936 - September 26, 2025
Independence, Missouri - Bernadine Ann Schulte (Dill) passed away peacefully, September 26, 2025, surrounded by her children and extended family. She was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and Grandma. Bernie wore these titles effortlessly and selflessly to countless many throughout her life.
She was quick to laugh, with the deliverer of that humor often finding themselves on the receiving end of a hearty smack to the shoulder. Her feistiness allowed her to live in her own home longer than most could have.
Bernadine Ann Dill was born on October 21, 1936, in Frankenstein, Missouri to Leo and Bernadine Dill. She was given the nickname 'Toots' by the eldest of her 8 siblings. After graduating from St. George High School in Hermann, MO, Toots moved to Kansas City, where she soon met who would become the love of her life, Donald Schulte. Married on February 2, 1957, their union would welcome 3 daughters Donna, Debbie, Denise and son David. While raising her daughters brought her great joy it was her 'Davey' that gave her the greatest fulfillment! As her children grew up, she returned to the workforce as a data transcriber for the IRS. Bernies 30-year career brought many awards for her prowess on the keyboard.
Outside of family, it was Nativity of Mary Church that became her greatest source of joy through the lasting relationships cultivated while worshipping and volunteering for 65 years at the church and school. She was always available to step in to help in any capacity. It was her friends in the Altar Society who meant the most to her. Whether preparing the church for services, working funeral luncheons or the many Saturdays spent baking cinnamon bread, she relished these moments with this group that she loved.
Bernie is survived by daughters Donna Manfredi (Chris), Debbie Schulte, Denise Chapman (Mike), son David (Laura), sisters Geri, Theresa, Carol Ann, brother Jim, 10 Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Don, parents Leo and Bernadine, grandson Joe, brothers Edward, Ignatius and Basil and sister Mary.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cedarhurst and Ascend Hospice, especially Kelly, Crystal and Melissa who lovingly cared for our mom.
A visitation will be held at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, located at 10021 E 36th Terrace S. Independence, MO 64052, on October 9, 2025, from 6:30pm to 8:30 pm.
