I was one of "Bernie's boys." I am proud to say in his words, "I was one of many." Bernie was my friend, mentor, and the one responsible for my acceptance to dental school. For those of us fortunate enough to know him, we realize that he was "one of a kind." I was UMKC class of 1983.

Dr B was one of my all time favorite instructors. I always appreciated his knowledge, his wit and above all admired the way he cared about the success of all of his students. He shaped many lives.

All members of the UMKC dental community mourn the passing of Dr. Bernard Butterworth, who served with great distinction as a member of our faculty for many years. On behalf of our faculty, students, staff and alumni, we wish to convey our heartfelt sympathies to Dr. Butterworth’s family.

Dr. B or B3 as he and Dr Gronniger sometimes called him, is my Dental Grandfather. I have many wonderful memories of this sweet gentile man. One of my favorites is of seeing Dr. B standing next to Guy at my Dental school graduation. He will forever be missed.
