Betty Jane Emmons Buckley, 86, passed away Monday, November 15, 2010, at her home, Garden Terrace, of Overland Park, KS. She resided for almost 50 years in Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be held at D. W. Newcomer's and Sons White Chapel, 6600 N. Antioch Rd., on Wednesday, November 17, from 10-11 a.m., with funeral services following at White Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the
Alzheimer's Association. Born in Kansas City, Kansas, January 4, 1924, she graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1942. Betty married her childhood sweetheart, John Milton "Pete" Buckley on June 20, 1943. They were married 62 years and raised two daughters. Pete preceded her in death in 2005. Betty was very active in PTA during her daughters' school years. She was a member of PEO Chapter JK, served on both the Clay and Platte County election boards, volunteered at the North Kansas City Hospital, and was a member of Platte Woods United Methodist Church. She worked part-time for a Northland pediatrician, and later for an area ophthalmologist, but was proudest of her roles as "homemaker and mother." Early in their marriage, Pete contracted polio and lost the use of his right arm and hand. She literally became the "right hand" for him and through the years there wasn't anything they couldn't accomplish. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling with Pete, and known to many as the "perfect hostess," loved entertaining at home and at the lake with life- long friends and family. The two who were lovingly called "MiMi" and "Choo Choo", were always active in the lives of their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Together they have left a lasting legacy of love, integrity, honor, and respect. Betty was a true "lady" in every sense of the word. Survivors include her daughters, Jan Newland and Diane Ramsey; son-in-law, Mike Ramsey; grandchildren: Michelle Winkler and Jeff, Brad Newland and Cheryl, Jill Davies and Dan; great grandchildren: Hannah and Madison Winkler, Brady and Kayel Newland; and Ramsey, Riley, and Ridley Davies; sister, Harriett Watson; nephew, Bob Batson; and niece, Robbie Lou Davis. The family would like to express their gratitude to the entire staff at Garden Terrace for the excellent care she received there. Special love and thanks go to Lacey and her outstanding caregivers through the last five years on the TLC7 wing. They were truly her extended family. Through the years, they respected her dignity, and gave her their unconditional love. Arr. White Chapel, (816) 452-8419. D.W. Newcomer's Sons Funeral Homes, Cemeteries, Crematories.
