Carmelita Lewis Obituary

Carmelita C. Lewis, 78, of Leavenworth, KS, passed away Monday, March 3, 2003, at St. John Hospital, Leavenworth. She was born the daughter of Henry B. and Mary W. (Leonhard) Didde on August 16, 1924, in Nortonville, KS. She married James B. Lewis on September 27, 1947, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Leavenworth. He passed away August 16, 1994. Carmelita was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Leavenworth. She is survived by her sons and their wives, James R. and Debra Lewis, Shawnee, KS, and Thomas K. and Rita Lewis, Leavenworth; her daughters and their husbands, Ann and Daniel Nitchals, Leavenworth, Connie and John Will, Leavenworth, and Carol and Dave Peterson, Easton; her brother, George Didde, Kansas City, MO; her sisters, Henrietta Flowers, Chanute, KS, and Mary Kowalewski, Ottawa, KS; and 10 grandchildren. Her parents, husband, James, brother, Ignatius Didde and sister, Josephine Hund preceded her in death. A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Father David McEvoy will be held Friday, 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Leavenworth National Cemetery. The family suggests memorials are made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or to Leavenworth Catholic Schools, both in care of the funeral home.
