Carolyn Hirner Obituary

Carolyn Louise Hirner

December 1, 1931 - October 19, 2024

Lee's Summit, Missouri - Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Friend: Carolyn Hirner, age 92, of Lee's Summit, Missouri passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, at Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Carolyn lived a life of grace, kindness, and unwavering love that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Born on December 1, 1931, in Hannibal, Missouri. Carolyn was the second eldest of 4 children. She married Donald Hirner in 1950 and together they raised a family filled with love and laughter. Carolyn's life was a testament to devotion whether caring for her children, supporting her friends, or embracing her role as a grandmother, where she was known for her warmth, wisdom, and joy.

Carolyn's family was her greatest pride, and she leaves behind three children, two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren who will cherish her memory forever. Her nurturing spirit and tireless commitment to her loved ones created a legacy that will endure for generations.

Carolyn's lifelong activities included traveling, entertaining and volunteering. She was an active member of the Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Independence, Missouri and also served her community as President of the Junior Service League. Carolyn lived in Boca Raton, Florida and worked at the Boca Hotel as a concierge. Carolyn loved Colorado where she met her good friend Jack Dignum. They shared their time between Fredericksburg, Texas and Bellingham, Washington. Carolyn loved visiting her child home of Hannibal, Missouri and would often meet her childhood friends there for reunions. Carolyn spent the last four years in Lee's Summit, Missouri with her daughter Becky.

Carolyn was also known for her sharp wit and compassion for helping others. Her infectious laugh and gentle presence made her a beloved figure to many, and her home was always open to those in need of comfort or a listening ear.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Helen Calhoon, her brother, Richard Calhoon, her husband Donald Hirner and her friend Jack Dignum. She is survived by her children, Clay Hirner (Mallory) of Lenexa, KS; Dean Hirner (Joel Bailey) of Rancho Mirage, CA; and Becky Hirner of Lee's Summit, MO; grandchildren Abby Dogruoz (Direnc) of London, England and Dan Hirner (Jubilee) of Olathe, KS; and great-grandchildren Kaya, Shenel, Zeki and Dawsyn. Carolyn also leaves behind her sister Ada Ruth Heady (Van) of Smithville, MO. and her brother Marvin Calhoon (Claudene) of Hannibal, MO, and many other cherished family members and friends.

A private memorial service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Kansas City Hospice House in Carolyn's honor.

Carolyn's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of calling her family and friend.
