Cecil Lloyd Sharp Sr.

Cecil Lloyd Sharp Sr., 94, passed away at Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center Friday, November 16, 2007. Cecil was born September 16, 1913, at the Sharp family farm north of Elmira, Mo., to Archie Sharp and Helen Francis Sturgis Sharp. Cecil was a veteran of World War II, and a founder and life member of VFW Post # 6278 in Lawson, Mo. He served as Alderman from the west ward in Lawson, and was a member of the Clay County Civil Defense. He was a Scoutmaster in Lawson for many years. He was a member of the United Christian and Presbyterian Church, and faithfully attended until he entered the nursing home in January 2005. He was a member of the Bricklayers Local Union #4 and a master bricklayer. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 50 plus years, Veldora (Teegarden) Sharp, sons Cecil Sharp Jr. and Wilbur Sharp, daughter-in- law Beverly Sharp, brothers Garland, Glenn, Earl and Lester Sharp, and one, sister Ivanell Acklin. He is survived by four grandchildren, Randy (Amy) Sharp of St. Joseph, Mo., Scott (Tracy) Sharp of Albuquerque, N.M., Brian Sharp of Hollywood, Calif., and Cheryl Banks of Olathe, Kan.; daughter-in-law Merline Sharp of Liberty, Mo.; sister Thelma Arnoldia of Olathe, Kan.; five great grandchildren, Christopher, Aaron and Tim Banks, Lindy, Abby and Nora Sharp, two nephews and eight nieces. Camping and fishing were favorite pastimes after Cecil retired from bricklaying, many years were spent at Pomme de Terre lake. He enjoyed the many friends in his camping club and the trips they took together. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at the United Christian and Presbyterian Church in Lawson, Mo. The family will receive friends Monday, November 19, 2007, from 6-8 p.m., at the Polley Funeral Home in Lawson, Mo. Burial will be in the Lawson Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the United Christian and Presbyterian Church or to the Lawson VFW Post #6278.
