It is with deep respect and gratitude that I remember Charles Currey, a dedicated educator, mentor, and advocate for the arts and humanity.
As a Master Teacher at Northeast Junior High School in 1968, Charles Currey played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of many young educators. His kindness, patience, and wisdom were a guiding force, particularly for those just beginning their journey in teaching. He shared not only the craft of teaching but also a deep appreciation for the arts, leaving a lasting impact on both colleagues and students alike.
One such teacher, I, recall, "Mr. Currey was more help to me than I could have imagined. Thanks to his guidance, I survived my first year of teaching and went on to teach for 30 more years. I look back fondly on those days at Northeast and all the knowledge he imparted to

I am a friend of Dave L., a former art student of Mr. Curry. I met Charles once. Dave told me many times how caring Charles was. Once Charles bought Dave two tickets to a Larry Norman concert --the Christian singer-- when the box office was closed when Charles had taken Dave there the night before. Charles stayed a friend to Dave during Dave's hard times. Dave told me of Charles' passing yesterday --and how he cried and cried upon learning that Charles had passed. The good you gave to the world, Mr. Curry, did not go unnoticed. Thank you.

Northeast Junior High was a much more beautiful place with Mr Curry sharing his artistic knowledge with us "Baby Boomer" kids (NEHS Class of 1967). I hope these words of praise and real loving care help those that grieve for him, I'll be remembering him and his family in my prayers. Thanks for all the Colors of Love you shared with us. -Steve Cooley '67

I did not know you, but have had the privilege of knowing your daughter, Kathy. She is a wonderful person and a devoted wife and companion to her husband, Stephen who is my son. Because of this, I know that you have a presence in the Kingdom of God.

Mr. Curry was one of the best teachers I ever had. A few times I shared a seat with him on the Troost bus as I rode to my part time job after school. What a genuinely caring man! I'm saddened by his passing. I'm confident that there is a special place in Heaven for him. Bon Voyage, Mr. Curry. Rest well.
