Dr. Stern took me under his wing back in 1993-5 while I was working on my Ph.D at the U. of KS. I don't remember how we met but he was always a wise & kind mentor to me. I taught a few courses in Philosophy, Evolution and Ecology for him as a graduate student. I will always remember our thought-provoking lunches in Kansas City. I'd been Googling his name now and again am deeply sorry to have not connected sooner.

Ann:
Leslie informed me yesterday about Dan. I am so sorry for you and your family's loss. I have such memories of you and Dan's kindness to me when I was in Kansas City. I am so sorry we have lost touch. I know you have moved but do not have your current address or tel.# or email. Again, my condolences to all of you.

Dear Ann

Sorry I could not attend services for Dan - 94 year old mother had appointment.

But wish to say Dan was a special human being - decent, kind, caring - he always may you feel like you were an important person and he had nothing better to do but to listen to your cares and concerns. To know him was an honor

Dear Ann and Family - please accept my sincerest condolences. Ann, you and Dan were inspirational to me during my employment at CASA and as your Case Supervisor. Your work with the children of Jackson County, and your contributions in the creation of The CASA Project many years ago has benefited hundreds of children and families and Dan's legacy will carry on through the continuing work of CASA. My life has been blessed by knowing and working with both of you and my thoughts are with you. Kathy (Freeman) Gwynne-Thomas
