DAVE EGE Obituary

EGE, JR. Dave Ege, 91, passed away May 25, 2016. Dave was born in Turtle Creek, PA, on Jan. 21, 1925. He graduated from Male High School, Louisville, KY and served for three years in the 1st Army, 69th division, Medical Battalion in WWII. He graduated in 1949 from Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, PA, with a Bachelor's Degree in Me- chanical Engineering. Dave worked for Burns & McDonnell, retiring in 2008 at the age of 83 after 59 years of employment and was considered a Burns & McDonald legend. Throughout his career he focused on power generation. Dave was an intrepid traveler, usually enjoying multiple inter- national trips a year. He has vis- ited all continents, including Antarctica, cruised all oceans, including north of the Arctic Cir- cle just last fall, and visited more countries than anyone can name. He was fascinated with other cultures, religions, nature, wild- life and archeology. Prior to re- tirement, he traveled worldwide for Burns & McDonnell, including Siberia, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, China, Nigeria, and Tanzania. Dave found additional travel opportunities by volunteering his professional services for In- ternational Executive Service Corps and in 2006 received the President's Volunteer Service Award for his IESC work in India. He served on the Kansas City Building and Fire Codes Board of Appeals for over 40 years and was a Board member for the Gillis Center and Women's Christian Association. Most re- cently he served on the Board of Heartland Center, where he vol- unteered for many years as a camp counselor and worked on construction projects. In addi- tion, he was an active member of the Kansas City Ski Club and the Pioneer Gun Club. Dave became a member of Second Presbyterian Church in 1949 and was still singing in the choir after 63 years, in addition to weekly Bible Study and bridge. He served as an Elder and Deacon and traveled on several mission trips to Guate- mala with the church. In 2011, he visited the Presbyterian Educa- tion Board ("PEB") Sargodha School for girls in Pakistan and learned of their need for a Boys' school. Ever since, he has sup- ported PEB and, as a result, con- struction began on the Boys' school upper story classrooms last week. Dave was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Barbara, and by his brother, Thornton. Dave is survived by his children, Doug Ege, Molly Hundley (Doug Hundley), and Nancy Ege (Michael Bascom); grand- daughters, Katie Marshall (Tim Marshall) and Anne Hundley; his sister, Lindy Estep; along with numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, June 3, at Second Presbyterian Church, 55th and Oak. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Heartland Center, 16965 NW 45 Hwy., Kansas City MO 64152; Gillis Center, Inc., Kansas City, MO; Friends of PEB, Inc., PO Box 1311, Saint Cloud, MN 56302-1311; or Second Presbyterian Church, Kansas City, MO.

Dear Ege Family,

Bill and I wish to extend our condolences to all of you upon the death of your father.

We have been neighbors at Armour Oaks and I have played bridge with him in the parlor at Armour Oaks.

What an interesting and delightful person he was to be around and to know. He will be greatly missed by many.

Sincerely,
Bill and Pat Ross
