Donald R. Walters Obituary

Army Sgt. Donald Walters couldn''t wait for the war in Iraq to begin, his wife said, because "the sooner this war got started, the sooner he could come home and see his family." That was the message Walters relayed to his wife of nine months, Stacie, in their last conversation. Walters, 33, of Kansas City, Mo., was captured and March 23 when his 507th Maintenance Company was ambushed and then executed while in custody. Walters grew up in Oregon and joined the Army after he graduated from high school in 1988. He guarded captured Iraqi soldiers in the first Gulf War. After going through a divorce and remarrying, Walters re-enlisted, hoping to build a more stable life for his second wife and their 9-month-old daughter, Amber. "He''s a great guy, he''s just full of life," said his father, Norman Walters. "He loves life, he loves people, he loves his children." Posthumously, he was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry with marked distinction, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. In May 2004, he was awarded a POW medal.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and to also let the Walters Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in Afghanistan. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one, Donald Ralph Walters US Army Sergeant. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Donald,
Happy Birthday in Heaven.

Birthdays In Heaven

Are there birthdays in Heaven?
Does the angel blow his horn?
Announcing to everybody
That this is the day you were born?

Can the stars be your balloons
And angel food your cake?
Presents wrapped in moonbeams
All the angels helped to make.

Birthdays meant so much to you
They were always a big deal
Birthday presents, lots of friends
And perhaps a special meal.

So we'll whisper a little prayer today
Asking everyone up above
To sing you a Happy Birthday song
And give you all our love.

You died defending our country and the town I was born in and for that I can't thank you enough. You are a brave man, not only did you join the army to protect the United States you did it with an eagerness that I have never seen. You died defending the rights I enjoy today. They may be simple words, but I mean them with all my heart, thank you so much.

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

I saw this man's photo on tv and said to myself, that man was a hero. You can see it in his eyes. He would fight until the end.

I then saw that his birthday was the same month day and year as mine. A scary coincidence.

I hope he is in a good place.
