Jake was voted Best Girl Athlete in her Centra.l High School class of 1952. I graduated 3 years later but I vividly remember watching Jake in the 7th hour class meant for the best upperclass athletes. She wasn't a tall gal but she could jump higher than anyone - volleyball, basketball, and she was a natural in every sport. We had a great teacher, Gertrude Jones. Central swept up all the sportsdays, so we later decided we should have annual reunions for all the Central Olympian Club sports-women that we could find addresses for. Jake's sister and I organized them and we had super turnouts. Our first one brought in 55 gals. That's when I got to know Jake and realized what a spark she was. She marched to the beat of her own drum, knew her mind, and had a great sense of humor. She and sister Pat never missed a reuniom in all the years we got together. Last year , 2025 was our last official reinion. Those of us who are still left want to say our farewell to Jake, a superb athlete and friend.

Jake led us in our song: "Oh the Olympian girls are hard to beat. They look 100 per from head to feet. They've got the smile, the Style , the winning way. And where-ere you go you'll recognize them, then you'll say, now there's a girl I'd like to know, she's got that good old Central pep ad go. Just take one look at her, she sure is neat she's halrd to beat, the Oly.pian girl!

I remember her fondly as a role model and an inspiration to excel. She and Ms. Griffin were wonderful gym teachers and great examples for me...never boastful or overly proud...just confident...and that´s perfect for any high school female.
