EUGENE C. SCOVILL Eugene "Gene-o" C. Scovill, 87, Kansas City, MO, died at his home Tuesday, March 6, 2018. He was born Sept. 7, 1930, to Lulu C. (Strupp) Scovill and Frank Scovill in Gashland, MO. After graduation from Manual Vocational High School in Kansas City, Gene served in the US Navy in Norfolk, VA, for four years, and spent 26 years as a member of the Kansas City, MO Police Department, 22 of those on the motorcycle squad. In addition he trained and mentored young police officers at the police academy and at the Central Missouri State University campus. Gene was a four-time president of the North Kansas City Lion's Club. He enjoyed golf, wood-crafting, home remodeling, reading, especially history and military history, and spoiling his cats. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Marilyn, his daughter Carla Scovill of Gladstone, and his son Bruce Scovill, daughter-in-law Susan, and granddaughter Clara Scovill of Jefferson City. Preceding him in death were his brothers Don and Joseph "Scotty" Scovill, and sister Anna May Hedden. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Mon., March 12, at White Chapel Funeral Home. All my love goes out to you, my dear friend Carla, on the loss of your beloved Dad, Gene Scovill. It is simply the hardest thing to lose a parent and my heart breaks for you and what you're going through at this time. His decades of service to the people of Kansas City as a Kansas City, Missouri Police Department officer, and in such a dangerous field as a motorcycle officer in particular, commands our highest respect and tribute.
I watched your memorial video to him, which was truly beautiful. My prayers and kindest thoughts are with you and Gerald, your Mom, and your brother Bruce and his family, as you celebrate his life and love.
