I met Gene not long after he retired and as I was preparing to retire. Those who know him will appreciate that he took be on as his "project" to teach me how to "retire". He suggested that I take a more active role in our Grand Lake homeowners association and recommended to the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre Board that I lead a facilities planning committee of which he was a part. Then, as he had "his attorney" on the team, we did a corporate review, and worked with his Kansas City tax attorney to clean up things (as he liked to put it). That led to my being chair of a building committee to plan and build a
$6.5 million state of the art theater facility.
In the last few years I have valued his friendship and have missed his presence. We have visited when I was in Kansas City or when he was in Grand Lake, and have talked by telephone. He lives on through the youth and disabled sailing program in Grand Lake and the joy people experience each summer at RMRT.
His children can be proud of the legacy Gene and Charlotte have left behind. God bless you all. Their spirits must rest high above Grand Lake.

Mr. Zachman was a kind and thoughtful man that will be missed. He wasn't the sort of man that judged you by how much money you had in your wallet, or what kind of car you drove, or what neighborhood you came from. He would listen and hold a sincere conversation with you. I hadn't seen you for a few years but I always said a Happy Birthday to you on our birthday. You were always 30 years ahead of me. Your family will miss you. The communities you lived in will miss you. Rest in Peace Mr. Zachman.

From the entire Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre "family," - the Board, Staff, Volunteers Donors and Friends, we extend our deepest sympathy to Gene's family. We have wonderful memories of his time with us and his commitment and dedicated service to our organization. It was a privilege to know him and we know that he will be deeply missed by many. May your memories of him help to ease the loss in the days to come.
