Frederick Irwig Obituary

Frederick Henry Irwig passed away on October 15, 2025 at the age of 92. He was born March 6, 1933 at old Menorah Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He was the middle child with an older sister, Vivian, and a younger brother, John. Their parents were Dr. Fred and Martha (Flarsheim) Irwig.

Fred enjoyed his childhood on the family's cattle farm in Johnson County. He attended Corinth School and then Shawnee Mission High School (now Shawnee Mission North), eventually graduating from Finley Engineering College in Electrical Engineering.

Fred's family was long-time members of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church where he was active in the Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle Scout.

He began working for Ingersoll-Rand Co. in Detroit, MI in 1960 and married that same year to Millie Schroeder. They were transferred several times around the country with that company, ending up in southern California. Five years later, Fred began a new job working for Mobil Oil Corp. He retired from Mobil after 25 years of lubrication engineering which he enjoyed.

During these years, two sons were born and raised in California. Those were busy years with Fred participating with our sons in Indian Guides, Boy Scouts, and Little League Baseball. A last work transfer brought our family back to Kansas in 1978.

Survivors include Millie, sons Scott and Douglas, nephews and nieces.

Fred's family would like to thank the nurses at Village Shalom and Kansas City Hospice for their kind care.

Cremation. A service will be held at a later date.
