I think of Gary Wasserman often, because he was in my home many years ago for a Christmas gathering with a guest who he later married. I knew him though his Mother, Flo. She lived on the Plaza when she lived in K.C. and I first met her on a cruise. We had many lunches together over the years. One of my daughters Robyn, who was head of Public Relations, at Children's Mercy, before moving to Tennessee, knew him when she worked there. He was such a kind man, and his Mother Flo talked about him often. He took her grocery shopping weekly when she lived here, before moving back to N.Y., where she was from.

I am saddened to hear about this wonderful man's passing. I knew his Mother Flo for many years and we went on so many Cruises! I gave her Sants every year for Christmas, because she loved them so much. Gary had left them to the hospital after her passing. He and Cheryl have been in my home for Christmas parties in years passed. What a loss this world has now!

To the Wasserman Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Wass passing.I met him in 1977 in Hawaii and hung out with both he and his mother Flo when he wasn't in the medical meetings. I have very fond memories of him and we used to write each other till the late 80's but still talked once in awhile during that time and beyond. He was a wonderful and caring person and I am very proud to have known him. He will always be a part of my life. I am sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all now and forever. I read this notice shortly after he passed but couldn't come to grips to write but that is passed and life goes on. It still stings as I look at the pictures I took of him or hear his name as I know it does you but it will heal but don't know when. RIP dear Wass

I was fortunate to know Wass at Albright College and then on to KCCUMB. Wass made you feel like a best friend. He would always bring a small gift for everyone on our golf trips as well as several employees at the golf club in AZ. He was the most generous person I know with his friendship.
You will be sorely missed.

I still look over at the Wasserman home and see Wass walking the dogs, teaching his daughter Mady to ride a bike and him picking up neighbors newspapers and placing them on their stoops to save them a trip down the driveway. That was Wass the neighbor, not just the doctor. Another of his many facets.
Wass, it's hard to believe I will never see you enjoying life in a way only we know how. You just have a leg up on us all for now.You are now enjoying the fruits of your labor called "life" in a place we only dream of. You are in Heaven, a place where we will all reunite. Will you please teach me some of your dance moves once that day should come for me? Life will never be the same without you, but then again, it was never the same as each day went by when you were here. You made a differece ever single day.
Your many contributions will live on, Cheryl and Mady will live on, and your memory lives on. I'm quite certain there will never be another "Wass" again. You were (are) just that awesome!

Wass and I were assigned as roommates our freshman year of college. Before we met he sent me a letter of introduction and signed it "Gary the Great " . I knew then that this was a very special person. We shared fifty amazing years of friendship. I am forever grateful to have had Gary the Great in my life and will forever miss him. I was sorry to learn of Gary's passing. He was an early mentor to me in Clinical Toxicology. He was pleased to assist me on several occasions with excellent clinical information when I was a physician to the Astronauts at the NASA-Johnson Space Center, Houston. God bless Wass's family during this time of positive remembrance.

Cheryl, Lary and family...I'm so very sorry to hear of Gary's passing. I always tell people "We were in Nam together". He got a kick out of that...and, it was actually true..(although it was 1998 and we were all on vacation!) Gary was a wonderful man and I'm sorry for your loss. I hope to make it to his celebration of life. Lynda Manganelli, La Jolla CA

‘Wass' was one of those special people that if you are very lucky you will meet sometime in life. Regardless of adversity or workload, Wass always had a twinkle of humor in his eye, and a bright outlook for the future. A legend in the history of the “El Occotillo” apartment culture.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Cheryl and all of Wass's family. I know how admired he was as a Doctor and a friend to so many people. He will be missed by everyone. I know how much he will be missed but his teaching of others in the medical field will continue to make a difference. The next few weeks will be so difficult but so many great memories .... His passing is a loss for the community.

Our thoughts and prayers go with the Wasserman family. Wass was a genuine individual and was free with his time and advice. Even though we lost touch, I still remember his kindness as a teacher and as a friend. His laugh was infectious and he would always make you feel at ease. His reputation was not only local but international for his work in toxicology and pediatrics. Wass you will be missed.

I had the privilege of knowing and working with "Wass" for decades. We were fellow pediatricians, medical toxicologists and very good friends. We shared many experiences as well as challenges together in the early years in the development of the specialty of clinical toxicology. He certainly will be missed by patients, colleagues and friends. My thoughts and prayers go to his family.
