To the Cascone Family: I loved having George as my vice-principal, principal and 8th grade teacher at St. Pat's. He made learning so much fun. He tried to make ladies and gentlemen of his students. My class of 1973 made a hilarious 8mm movie that when I saw George last, at the St. Pat's all school reunion, he told me he threw it away because it was so embarrassing. But it wasn't, we were so proud of it. His Chrismtas party for the 8th graders was always cherished, hosting it downstairs in his bachelor quarters of his mother's house. I can still remember that he bought all of us new stocking caps and scarves.

George's outrageous stories which were part fact and part fiction kept us rolling in the aisles at school, talking about who in their right mind would continually tear down flocked wallpaper in the men's room at Cascone's north. I couldn't figure it out either.

I am honored to have been one of his students. A smile always flashes across my face at the sheer mention of his name, like 10s of thousands Kansas Citians. I am proud to have known him for 37 years.

Thank you George.

If you grew up in the Northland of Kansas City, you appreciated what a great opportunity you had for wonderful, authentic Italian food because of Cascone's. As everyone has said, a large part of that experience was George Cascone's smiling face, always checking to make sure everything was okay.
God Bless Jim and Sara and all of the Cascone's family.
We hold you in our hearts and prayers as you say goodbye to such a good, gentle man.

I remember Mr. Cascone as one of the best teachers & principals I ever had. He was a caring & passionate person (but strict) to all he taught. He is directly responsible for my infliction of talking with my hands (HaHa). A great man with an infectious laugh. He made learning fun & interesting. I only hope I told him that enough!

I met George shortly after I graduated from High School, when he offered me a job that I probably did not disserve. Decades later I am keenly aware that any success I have had is due to the path that George started me on within a few years of meeting him. As I grew into adulthood, George was always there with guidance and support, a model friend and mentor who treated me like family. It would be impossible for me to overstate the impact George had on my life. I sincerely offer condolences to the Cascone family and friends. George made the world a better place for all that knew him, and I count myself lucky for being one of many in this crowd.

George touched so many people's lives, including mine. In fact, I became a teacher because of him. What a memorable 8th grade year he gave us! He was strict, but he let us stretch the boundaries and have fun. I'll never forget how he use to stand at the podium and teach us while smoking a cigarette. Those were the days!

My deepest sympathy to the Cascone family and all who loved George. To my own loss I never had the priviledge of meeting George, but have always held my utmost regard for the man who took my son under his wing and employed and helped to guide him after my son's father died. He was even Godfather to two of my grandchildren. I know he was a wonderfull person from the stories I heard from my son, Mason Pillow. Bless you all and my prayers are with you at this time of loss.

My fondest memory of George was one year for his birthday I gave him a very sharp Royals tie, as he was a devout Royals fan. He wore it all day making sure everyone saw his gift. After the Royals lost that night, I watched him take it off and put it in a drawer. I said "You're never going to wear that again, are you?" He said "Nope, it's a jinx!"

I moved to Kansas City in 1991, having not been here before. I spotted the restaurant while learning my way around. I walked in, told my story, and was offered a job starting that night. From that first day George made me feel welcome and took a genuine interest in me. Although it’s been years since I left the restaurant, I can easily recall his kindness and caring nature. Like many others, I credit George with starting me off on the right foot, which has lead too much of my success. Thank you George, I am forever grateful for having known you.

I am so sorry to hear about George. He was part of what made going out to dinner at Cascone's so special. I Played accordion at the NKC restaurant for several years and always got tickled when George would stroll by and catch me playing a customer's request for an Irish song or something else that definitely was not an Italian selection. I am so sorry for the Cascone family's loss. What a wonderful man.

My deepest sympathies to the Cascone family. Although I knew George my entire life, He will always remain my favorite teacher. He had such an unique way of teaching, going as far as telling his students they can call him George...most teachers would not allow that. but with George, I believe he received more respect by doing it.
I can go on and on about this wonderful man.
