George Romey Obituary

George Romey, 82, passed away on December 11, 2003. George was born in Brooklyn Heights, MD in 1921. At the age of 21 he enlisted in the Army. He served in the liberation of the Philippines as a marksman and ammunition NCO. George was awarded the American Theatre Service Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, Distinguished Unit Badge, Philippine Liberation Service Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. Upon his discharge from the service in 1945, he returned home to Maryland. George married Gloria Asti of Colver, PA in 1952. He worked for Baltimore Gas and Electric until his retirement in 1984. George enjoyed gardening, square dancing and was active in the community. He won the Maryland Volunteer of the Year Award in 1999 for meritorious service to the state. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Gloria Romey; four sons, Rodney and Kim Romey of Vancouver, WA, Stephen Romey of Gaithersburg, MD, George Romey of New York, NY, Jay and Cindy Romey of Edgerton, MO; four grandchildren; seven sisters; two brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Anna Romey, one sister and one brother. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church in Lee's Summit, MO.
